I did find another user who used the same case and coolers with an i7 processor... so hopefully the Zalman cooler will still fit...
How am I looking on updated specs? Do i need to worry about the DDR3-1600 ram being used in an OC setup? I ditched the need for onboard mSATA and will instead pick up a $20 adapter to mount it in a standard SATA slot...
Is there a better GPU for the purposes of dolphin?
Thanks again for all of your help on this.. Not sure if anyone cares, but I suppose I could put together a build thread as well. No stranger to PC builds, but since I started teaching-- i've been out of the game a little.

You would be hard pressed to find a new gpu in that price range that would run dolphin better so you are set on the gpu department unless you wanted to spent more. Your ram is fine and you don't have to worry about it one bit for dolphin. You should be set to run dolphin at 4x ir and some aa so you have a nice build there.

I'm skipping the need for mSata and just going to buy an adapter. Going with ASUS based on previous experience with a solid brand, overclockability, and $120 doesn't seem like a bad price.
What did you have in mind?

Since I've got some room in my budget... This seems to be a pretty popular card:
EVGA GeForce GTX 960 2GB Video Card
I really just want to eliminate any possibility of low frame rates or hitchy emu...

If the 960 is around the same price as an an r9 285 or an r9 280 I would go with those two gpu's instead. I just never liked the idea of the 960s 128bit bus.

i think the r9 280x is the best choice here so you can play sometimes a pc game and play the most wii and gc games with 3 or 4 internal resolution (i think but i don't know)

Hmmm yea those 280's and 290's go to 512bit... though that tacks on an additional $100 from the 960.
