with overclocking, the i5/7 will beat the phenom easy.
without, i dont think the difference is really worth it.
Alright.

yeah, you wasted your money on the i7 extreme. a 920 will crush your extreme when overclocked.
Most es generally clock worse iirc.

means engineering sample.
those cpus always reached higher clockspeeds then retail cpus.
i'd discount at least a few hundred mhz for a cpu average joe buys.

Ugh so a i5 860 won't be much better then a Phenom II 955 Black Edition on Dolphin at STOCK, orrrrrrr am I wrong?

i dont paid attention resently, but for the c2d back in 2006/07 when i bought mine, the ES overclocked easy to ~500mhz more then average stock cpu.
it wouldn't make sense if that changed.
ES are still handpicked and used to develope mainboards, so they need to be highly overclockable.
On the other hand they are given away for reviews.
would be funny if intel gives away a handpicked cpu for a review that is worse then average stock cpu, but i doubt they are plain stupid.

es are crippled if they're early in the game. eses are handpicked to make sure they even work lol. Yield is low for es. Some es overclock badly. Even then 4.3 for an es means at worst we'll see 3.6ghz on air. Not to bad if you ask me. Also, retail i5s reached 4.5ghz on xs.

xs...
you really want to compare xs with the average user ?
those guys have thousands of bucks and many years of experience. if they f*ck up one cpu...who cares, next please.
also, 4,5ghz is worth nothing for i7 on xs.
now look what average joe gets out of i7. if its stable 4ghz on air he will be happy.
the turbo mode already goes up to 3,6ghz, so i would consider this bad.
still i believe the average should be able to do 3,8-4ghz just as i7.
i doubt it will be much higher, but if yes, i gonna buy one
(pretestet of course)

I'm an xs member lol. 1280 posts. I like overclocking. Turbo for people at xs=bad.

I'm not sure if I'm going with a i5, I like the Phenom II's also, seen some good speedson several games at stock so yea.
On Wiki it said it would came out on 6 September, that's today so yeah hopefully it will.
