Been playing around with Pokemon XD and LeafGreen.
Following the given steps both games seem like they're going well (decent speeds despite noticable slowdowns) but connection fails about 2 minutes after (Dolphin being stuck at "checking the game" while VBA-M runs the game as usual).
Repeating the process results in a proper connection, but the GBA savefile is reported as corrupted (it becomes corrupted after failed attempt).
Gonna provide more info after playing with version provided few posts ago.

On a side note: Your VBA-M version seems to always consider a savefile "corrupted" (even if vanilla VBA doesn't)

EDIT: OK, I made myself try again with builds of VBA-M and Dolphin provided here and here respectively. Tried with both LLE and HLE recompiling. It did bring some nice results but ended up freezing either side of the link.

Thanks, Zlew. Nice vid. Yeh, as Pokemon does work but the emulation speed goes up and down, it does look like a timing problem. I haven't been able to work out where/what the problem is in particular with the timing yet.

Zlew

How timing can affect the emulators' working? Wouldn't it just disconnect on both sides and call it a day?
It'd be more sensible to pause the emulator if it's waiting for something from the other one than to crash, so I'd guess if both Dolphin and VBA-M keep pausing to wait for each other it'd explain the slowdown.

What I mean is that the Pokemon connection should work successfully with both emulators running at 100% speed the whole time through. As it doesn't right now (but it works if the emulator speed fluctuates), that means there is something wrong with the timing.

Sorry for necro.

I'm reporting some improvement on FFCC with an issue about GBA's having trouble connecting when HLE is checked. Obviously the solution is to use LLE since it does not have this problem, but you lose some frames with LLE.

I can now, with 2 VBAs connected, play with 30 frames almost completely consistent during gameplay while on HLE, with little to no problems reconnecting the VBAs. The builds I used were the one linked in a post here (post 80) and Dolphin's latest dev build as of this post, 6986. I do not get a consistent 30 with 3-4 VBAs connected though, and VBAs start to have problems connecting from there.

Settings I used were tested with both OpenGL and DirectX (same results, however with my Nvidia 670m, I get more consistent frames with OpenGL, no graphical glitches as far as I can see). However, internal resolution had to be set to 1x. Basically, minimal graphic enhancement. I also of course dumped DSPs from my Gamecube to accomplish this, as the built-in DSPs won't work with any DSP option.

Referring back to my statement on the "little to no problems reconnecting the VBAs", the VBAs occasionally take a little while to reconnect, upwards of 3-5 seconds, sometimes immediate re-connection. However, I do not have to reconnect the VBAs manually.

I can at least properly play 2 players in FFCC with only a few hitches. This was accomplished with my Intel i7-3610QM. While a great processor for a laptop, it's a laptop processor.

My recommendation: You should only use HLE if after using it, you have mostly consistent 30 frames. VBA-Ms take longer to connect or don't connect automatically if your frames are suffering. And as usual, don't leave your map on your VBAs.
it's not necro unless the thread hasn't been posted in in over 6 months or your post doesn't add anything, so you're good! Smile
I was trying the pokemon colosseum bonus disc (USA) connection and found something peculiar: the connection won't work with 127.0.0.1, but will with localhost.

Using WXVBA-M-1.8.0-SVN1292_TEST-win32 and dolphin 7159 (I know it isn't the latest version, but the latest wasn't working so I used the one on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zUvgpfj28s)

UPDATE: tested again, not working again, seems like the localhost/127.0.0.1 doesn't make a difference (well, it shouldn't). I don't know how I got it to work that single time.
UPDATE2: got it working again... i guess the order on doig things really does matter
UPDATE3: why is this so tricky? I keep repeating the same process, same order, sometimes it works, sometimes it does't.
1.- Open dolphin
2.- Load game, get to gba conection screen
3.- Load vba-M, load game, enable linkbus at bios screen

By the way, pokemon colosseum bonus disc and pokemon colosseum itself won't detect controller 1 if there's a gba controller set when booting the game, it needs to be setup later. Maybe it tries to use it as main controller?

UPDATE4: seems like this works almost always (tested usa colosseum bonus disc and japanesse colosseum bonus disc)
1.- Open dolphin
2.- Load game, get to gba conection screen
3.- Load vba-M, load game, enable linkbus at bios screen
4.- Connection will likely fail, gba game will boot normally
5.- Gc: return to the gba connection screen, ready for gba connection
6.- GBA: emulation-> reset. This time connection should properly work.
Please help i'm trying to play single player using Dolphin to GBA. Am running Dolphin 4.0-9050 and the latest Visual Boy Advance-M from github. The game runs at full speed and perfect on both Dolphin and Visual Boy Advance window, but my only problem is my character is hitching when walking. I don't know the cause of this am using the same settings provided on the Dolphin wiki page for this game. I tried changing every setting within Visual Boy Advance but the hitching won't stop.

Also aside from the jittering/hitching from the characters in multiplayer, the characters will not focus their spells or attacks. Instead of focusing, its almost like turbo was on for the attack button but its not, when holding the attack button the character keeps rapidly attacking, and when all i'm doing is just holding the button not tapping it.  Here is a YouTube video i uploaded showing the issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEUnDb3eAMk
