However if you want supreme accuracy, then XEBRA is the one you want:

Mednafen is better.
Mednafen is a multi-system emulator and quite hard to use if you're in-experienced since it is driven by command-line input.
There are frontends but I prefer to stay away from Mednafen.
Just drag a cue sheet onto the exe and it will start and just work.
Let me put it this way, I've been using ePSXe since 1.5.0 and I have grown fond of it and it's hard to let go.
If you got the right plugins, there isn't much trouble at all.
It's true that I have replaced a couple of emulators over the years, Ootake replaced Magic Engine for example.
Plugin based emulators isn't the most solid solution but take Project64 as an example, it's one of the few N64 emulators that actually plays all games I have just fine.
Glide64 for GFX, Azimer Audio for sound and N-Rage for controls.
I just can't let ePSXe go when it have been so long in my life, it's like stop using Dolphin if a new better emulator appeared.

This. A thousand times. It just works. And no crappy plugins.
OKay..! I'm using Xebra at the moment & it works fine, but sometimes I get audio crackle.
Could you suggest a good frontend to use with Mednafen? Or just the basic commandline option that
you use yourself?
thanks!
ps. I don't mean to hijack the thead..

You can try RetroArch.
That or you can use MedGui

Just mednafen path/to/game.cue. You can just drag and drop it onto the exe. You don't need to do anything special, it just works right out of the box.
Wonder what he did to get the ban?
Yeah, found it, iirc, same thing before that, and the one before, and the one before....
