Hmm, I always thought it was because of the difference in single core performance(though admittedly, Passmark isn't always totally reliable) but after looking at the single core benchmarks between the 3770k and 4770k and knowing how much faster the 4th gen is in Dolphin than the 3rd it appears that those scores are totally irrelevant to the situation.

My CPU can run a few of the more demanding titles and I'm about right smack in the middle of that range.

This is a pure CPU benchmark, but real-world Dolphin performance may be affected by other things (such as driver overhead, etc.).

You're experienng better than average performance for several reasons:
- NVIDIA GPU drivers are known to have less CPU overhead than AMD drivers.
- Additional performance boost from the recent vertex loader JIT optimizations.

And finally, "Full Speed" means full speed all the time (without dips, even in the most demanding parts), not "full speed most of the time" or "full speed half of the time".

The scoring is like that for several reasons:

1. "Full Speed" in this benchmark means full speed all the time (without dips, even in the most demanding parts), not "full speed most of the time" or "full speed half of the time".
2. NVIDIA GPU drivers are known to have less CPU overhead than AMD drivers. The scoring is adjusted (normalized) to take this into account.
3. The benchmark doesn't take into account the performance boost gained from the recent SIMD vertex processing optimizations.

Also, a quad-core CPU can provide more consistent average results than a dual-core (translating into a better overall benchmark score).

This is POV-Ray, a CPU benchmark. It has nothing to do with GPU drivers, and nothing to do with the vertex loader. It renders an image on the CPU and saves it to disk.

Updated (fixed) the previous post.
The results for the Pentium G3258 (Stock 3.2 GHz, Win 8.1): 6min 13s

No OC for now, sorry, but maybe later Wink

Not even going to bother arguing with you because it's absolutely pointless. This benchmark isn't going to help much anyway because we're still going to get the "Can my PC run this?" threads no matter how thoroughly we test the program as a community :p

I have an i5 3570K. Is my CPU really that inferior to a Haswell CPU? It is my understanding that going from 3rd to 4th gen i5 only gives a small boost....

What is it about Haswell that gives such a performance boost in Dolphin? Should I be worried that my 3570K wont cut the mustard? I would like to play games such as Double Dash and Mario Galaxy at full speed in 1080P.
Except for The Last Story, you really shouldn't have any issue with games, especially with the dev builds getting faster and more accurate.

Ok thanks for the info, although that doesn't really answer my question about Haswell. What is it about Dolphin that gives Haswell such a performance boost over Ivy Bridge? The boost should be minor but everyone seems to speak as if the boost is large.

I ask because if the boost really is that significant and Dolphin somehow utilizes something special with the Haswell CPU's, then I may decide to upgrade in the near future.
