Wait a minute , are you guy talking about latest i3 (i3 4130 or i3 4150 which is paired with Haswell mobo : H81 , H87 , B85 , H97 , Z87 , Z97) or older gen Ivy Bridge i3 (i3 3220 which is paired with h61 , h67 , Z68 , H77 , Z77) ?
The latest i3 will make huge difference in speed compared to your Phenom or even top of the line OCed FX 8350 @ 5.0GHz
The older i3 won't . Just take a look at Dolphin Benchmark
Phenom x4 960T @ 4.0GHz run as fast as i3 3220 @ 3.3GHz
The i5 3570k route will waste your money

The one that OP has immediately available for use is an i3 2100
UPDATE: I overclocked my current CPU (960T) to 4GHZ. I did the dolphin benchmark and got 14:11 which is much better than the 18 minutes at stock. I think I might just stick with this thing until next year when I can upgrade to a new mobo and I5 cpu. Thanks everyone!
