Hmm reseated my card and tried the development build, can play with full settings with the occasional slow bits nows.
Thats good. The occasional slow bits may be the shader cache generating. Once you go through an area, when you go back through it does it still occasionally slow down?

I'll have a play tonight and post back.

Thanks for everyone's help btw, much appreciated.
Edit: When I enter the forest bit at the top of the island (first level) it goes from 100% circa 30 fps to 50-60% circa 15-20 frames. Go back to the bridge (main section) and shoots back up to 100% / 30fps...
And then what happened when you go back into the forest? Is it still slow?

Yup, up untill you ask the pirates if you can go with them and they say you need a shield.

Probably doesn't help if you don't know the game. However this bit is outside (the part that was previously at 100%). When going through the conversation (basically standing still and hitting a) it runs at the 50% mark, then when the conversation is finished back at 100%. That's thrown me a little.

Edit: Hmm I'd say more like 100% dipping to 80% every now an again (after talking to the pirates). Start from scratch and back to 100% steady.
I've completed this game through dolphin, but it's been awhile since I was at the beginning Tongue

From what you're saying, it looks like when you first reach an area it lags, but then going back to it it plays at 100% speed? Cause that's the shader cache issue, where it creates it the first time through and is slow and then reads the cache the next time and is fast

Hmmm yes and no. When I return to the forest it's still jittery (@ the 50% mark) when I return to the main island back to 100%. However when the island is refreshed after a cut scene with the pirates it drops to 80% (same "map" just slower now). Don't get it :S.

Could you check your gpu and cpu clocks while running the game? Do they underclock? You can use cpuz and gpuz to check.

Will do tonight and post results. Again thanks for all the help here.
