The ASUS GTX 970 Strix has an 8-pin PCIE on it and my power supply only has 6-pin PCIE on it.

Will this cable work in connecting this GPU to my PSU?

I'm finishing up my build and hooking up the gpu is the last thing to do.
That looks like it converts an 8-pin socket to a 6+2 plug, so it won't do what you want it to.
what cable do I need for it to work? Thanks.
In an ideal world, a whole new power supply, as they're generally not specified to work with loads of adapters, but if you have to, then molex to PCIe 8-pin adapters exist.
OMGoodness and wait a whole week for a new psu? No thanks, I'll just stick with 750 ti then.

I bought both the 750 ti and gtx 970 but then realized that my psu wouldn't work for this.

Why I bought both was to test the performance and for the games I was playing, I didn't see any noticable difference at 1080p with no filters, etc.
It's only in a worst case scenario that it's a total necessity to buy a new PSU. I'm just trying not to say it has a 100% chance of working perfectly, because it'll be a nuisance if you buy an adapter fully expecting it to work, and then it turns out whatever PSU you have isn't happy about that. It's not like it's something no-one does - my current GPU came with a pair of molex to PCIe 8-pin adapters, and it's pretty power-hungry.
Well I'll upgrade to the gtx 970 at the same time as when I buy a new power supply.
