I just realized the title says Not OC. So pretty much everyone talking about overclocking has their argument shrekt.

Going from this, I believe the OP is just concerned about the power draw (@OP, if I'm wrong, sorry in advance ), which was why they didn't want to go for an overclock.

However, the G3258 overclocked draws less power (around 80ish TDP) compared to the Athlon 750 at stock (100 TDP), so that was something we were trying to also advise towards doing

Except there was plenty of discussion about the i3-4330 and Pentium G3258 that was separate from any advice to the OP, such as whether an OC'ed Pentium could significantly beat ("demolish") the i3 in Dolphin. In that case, most of the talk centered around establishing facts, not purchase advice. That doesn't mean we (at least not I) were saying that OP should buy the Pentium based on its OC'ed performance.

The G3258 when overclocked to 4.7ghz (The number I keep seeing) takes as much power as the Athlon.

Oh, I see. I missed some discussion today apparently. You were referring to recent stuff (power consumption).

Then this whole thing does not make a single iota of sense!. Do not buy a G3258 and not overclock it.
There are higher clocked haswell pentiums for the same price or less.

I really dislike this discussion then so. There is nothing wrong with overclocking; It is not difficult to do, it does not equal unstable.

lol maybe for you, but there are a lot of people out there who don't know much about computers and are scared of overclocking or are doing it wrong.

There is an abundance of information on the internet that people should learn to look up. There are so many easy to follow tutorials, it is no longer an argument in this day and age.
Besides there is motherboard supplied auto overclocking for the noobs so it's all good.

There is no higher clocked Pentium that can beat an overclocked G3258, and getting a stronger i5/i7 because of below

He's not overclocking and thusly a G3258 should not be a consideration there are higher base clock pentiums though for the same price, ~ like I said.

Otherwise OP do buy a G3258 and do a mild overclock let's say + 400 MHz. Energy consumption is very small on this CPU if that indeed is the reason behind your aversion to overclocking.
