If I were you, and this is a dedicated dolphin only machine, I would Ebay your CPU and Motherboard. Purchase a G3258 and cheap H81 or B85 chipset motherboad. Overclock that puppy and buy the 970. You should still be able to play high end PC games too.

You may break even Money wise
Thanks for the replies guys. I decided to skip the cpu/gpu upgrades for now and instead get an 1080p display. im currently using a 720p display and it's not optimal for recording lets plays in high quality on youtube. I can force it to 1080 but the video footage still doesn't look that impressive with youtubes darn compression. -_- After I make this upgrade though, I will go back to planning for my pc upgrades.
or wait tell broad well and it will drive haswell prices down..
No new Intel microarchitecture in the last 10 years has driven down the prices of its predecessor. Intel will simply replace its existing lineup with new faster cpus at the same price points as it has always done.

yeah, is getting common these days

4k is not really here yet and many are already talking about 8k
Hi i just bought one gtx 970 with my old cpu core 2 quad 8200.
Performance don't change a lot but i had lot of micro stutters with my 460 gtx and they almost gone.
768vram to 4gb vram.
Metroid other M for example wich had lot of micro stutters before is now smooth.
StarFox adventure i got improvements in cutscenes wich are now full speed but there still aren't subtitles.
Twilight princess WII is fullspeed too even on hyrule field.
tested with dolphin-master-4.0-3496-x64
What were your graphics settings? If they're set too high they can cause some microstuttering. Although usually microstuttering is caused by your HDD.

Hyrule field cannot run fullspeed on that cpu unless you aren't very far into the game. Which I suspect is the case.

As for the subtitles in starfox adventures you likely have your settings configured wrong.
I just post my feedback.

My settings didn't change as for zelda i disabled Efb to ram but with a 99% gamesave, HDD is the same.

Some games got improvements some still run at same speed.
On Mario Galaxy 1 my fps are still 20 on the HUB.
Dead space extraction is faster too same for The Last story and F-ZERO GX.

I play testing dolphin since it's became open source a long time ago...

Btw improvements these last months are welcome for my old CPU.

Particularly IR and AA.

That would explain it. Although that will screw up the minimap among other things.
More than getting a GPu upgrade I would recommend you getting a better CPU, preferably Intel since AMD CPU´s tend to be very weak using Dolphin compared to Intel so if you did this you would definitely see an upgrade.
