So, I've tried running Dolphin in an Intel i5 3550 computer with its integrated graphics card (should be Intel HD 2500). I figured it should run well since it's not that far off from the recommended i5-3570K.

Turns out it still struggles with Pokemon Rumble, going to 45 fps or so in battles with lots of enemies (native resolution).

This makes me worry since I'm planning to buy a PC soon and I'm choosing that recommended i5-3570k for the CPU (with a dedicated graphics card though).

So my question, does the Intel HD 2500 really lower performance that much? I figured it must be eating the processor's own computing power for its GPU-related processes.

Just don't want to buy the wrong CPU here.

Also, I'm running this test on 32-bit so maybe that also factors in on the equation (planning to buy a 64-bit).

Oh, and also, are you supposed to overclock that 3570k to be able to run Dolphin smoothly? Because I have no experience in overclocking whatsoever and I'm afraid I'm going to fry it or something.
Intel HD 4000 barely meet the minimum GPU requirements for Dolphin . Most games should run fine at 1 or 1.5x Internal Resolution but it still struggle in GPU demanding games like Mario Kart , MP3 , TLS ....
Intel HD 4600 can handle up to 2.5x IR on most games , 1->2xIR on demanding games
i5 3570k is not recommended anymore since the new gen i3 4130 @ 3.4GHz is as fast as i5 3570k @ 4.4GHz in our official Dolphin Benchmark
i7 4790k or i5 4690k or the little beast Pentium Anniversary G3258 + Z97 mobo (Asrock Z97 Extreme 4 or MSI Z97 G45) are recommended atm . The Pentium can be OCed up to 4.6GHz on a stock Intel cooler . At that speed , it outperforms i7 4770k @ 4.3GHz in our benchmark . See more benchmark results here :

...Holy shit, is it really that fast? For that cheap, cheap price?

Too bad it just came out, so it's not going to come here anytime soon.
Dolphin is a dual core application and Pentium is a dual core processor ....You get the point
You still have other choice :

1) Budget CPUs that outperform i5 3570k in Dolphin :
i3 4130 (Intel HD 4400) / i3 4150 (4400) / i3 4330 (Intel HD 4600) / i3 4340 (4600) / i3 4350 (4600) + H81 mobo

2) i7 4770 on steroid (no integrated GPU) : Xeon Haswell 1230V3 @ 3.7GHz (Turbo Boost) + B85 mobo . If you choose this , you will have to buy a graphic card . Sth like EVGA GTX 750 will do

3) i5 4670k / i7 4770k (Old Haswell ) + Z87 mobo or i5 4670k / i7 4790k (New Haswell , OC higher) + Z97 mobo
