Also, this is only the maximum clock frequency the cpu will run at. It doesn't need to be stable, nor does it have to run a long time. It will die in days if you keep it like this.
But 5.0GHz is possible . Most people can do that
I'm not telling you guy to push it at 5.5GHz . I want to point out that it can break 5.0GHz barrier
Keep in mind that i5 4670k and i5 4690k have much lower baseclock and turbo boost
i5 4690k : 3.5GHz -> 4.6GHz
In theory , i7 4790k 4.0GHz should be able to do the same
Basically what I mainly want in this new CPU is good heat dissipation and wi-fi compatibility, also that it can fit a thermaltake frio ock
If you're still looking for a good mobo, you can always get the Asrock Z97 Fatal1ty Killer Motherboard. really good for $130-140, otherwise, there's still the other cheap boards, just imo the asrock mobo is the best bang for your buck
I would recommend the asus z97-A its a really good board. It's great!

That's not very impressive. The 6.4GHz won't last long; would die of degradation.
The 5.5GHz was achievable on Ivy Bridge. Devil's Canyon just makes it easier, but that doesn't justify spending 300+ on a motherboard.
OP, how many GPUs are you going to use. Let that decide your motherboard.
1 GPU = B85/H87/H97
2 GPU = Z87/Z97
3 or more GPU = LGA2011 -- you'll need more PCIE lanes
Unless you have the Anniversary Pentium, forget about overclocking. Of course if your only option is to burn your money, then go for it. You won't see any notice differences in performance by purchasing a higher end motherboard, but it's up to you.
Don't get brainwashed by marketing. A 15$ discrete sound card (ASUS Xonar 5.1) will sound better than any onboard card. A 50$ AC wireless discrete card (ASUS PCE66U/68U) will massacre any onboard solution. A 5-10$ Ethernet Card can replace any onboard Ethernet port. You're obviously not making an ITX build, so choose a motherboard for its expand-ability.
My favorite LGA1150 boards are the ASROCK Z87 Killer and ASUS B85, but they are outdated now. I'd get a ASUS H97 or ASROCK Z97 now.
p.s Most ASROCK and ASUS boards are made by FOXCONN.
