I have a PS3 controller and want to use it with Dolphin on my Windows 8.1 machine.

When I plug my PS3 controller in via Bluetooth, it gets detected by Windows 8.1 fine, and is even displayed as "Playstation 3 Controller" and it has a game controller icon, so there's no messing about with what it is.

When I try using it in Dolphin, Dolphin DOES detect it's existence in the GCPad setup, but when I switch to it and try to make keys bound to some of the controller's settings, nothing happens. It knows it exists but doesn't get any of it's inputs.

I've tried using programs like BetterDS3, but that doesn't seem to detect the PS3 controller's existence.

Ideally, I'd love to be able to use it and have it compatible with Bluetooth (as it doesnt seem to get detected by my computer's bluetooth..)

Any ideas on solutions?
Some people use motion joy to do this and here is a topic on doing it without.

This didn't work. Apparently Windows 8.1 brings a lot of issues.

Oddly enough I did some research and found that thread before reading it here.

It works. Kindof.

Bluetooth doesnt work. Not a big issue but a minor nuisance.
I DID have to install the Xbox drivers (it said I didnt have to.)
I MUST run the SCP server at all times when I wanna use the controller... Very very odd. Again, minor nuisance though.

So it works, just some caveats.
Any system that allows a DS3 or DS4 to work on Windows is going to have something like that. Sorry, but that's just unavoidable. You don't have to worry about that in Linux, cause you know, it's Linux.

Something like what? :o

-_-. Conversation, back and forth, come on, I shouldn't have to directly quote everything all the time to display context.

No matter what software or drivers you use, there is always going to have to be some sort of software running to get the DS3 to work on Windows. The reasoning for that is that there has to be something to initialize the connection. Blame Sony for making it weird like that. At least with the SCP Drivers you get a nice background service that you can forget exists, instead of something like Motion in Joy where you have to fire up the software every time and look at ads in a virus-vulnerable window just to connect your controller.

As mentioned this is a background service that loads up immediately you turn on your computer along with the hundred of other services your computer uses, once you plug in your controller it should immediately detect, all the lights flash a few seconds and then finally the light stays on 1 all the time, you don't need to run the service all the time. If for whatever reason the SCP service doesn't start up all the time by it self, go to your MSConfig and sort it out.

I'll check things out in MSConfig a bit later since I'm on mobile, but youre describing what isnt happening. The service doesn't seem to wanna be on at all unless the Server is on.
