Hi Guys

This is my first post, i have reading on this forum for a while now, but thought id registerSmile

Ok so i am using the latest revision of Dolphin (r6225 64bit) and trying to play SFA, i had been able to play it at full speed on a much earlier revision using just integrated graphics.

I have updated my system by adding an ATI 5850, and i know this card is more than capable of running GC & Wii games. I can run every game i have for dolphin at 1920x1200 with 4xAA 16xAF etc and everything looks wonderful and plays full speed.

Then i came to try SFA thinking that i would also get similar results with that... but i dont. My MAX fps is about 32, with game speed at around 66%, i have read some of your comments and you guys seem to be getting the same or better even though you seem to be using lesser cards than mine. Is there anything i can do to speed things up?

I also noticed that the FPS/Speed go up when not showing characters that have fur...

Thanks

The only thing I, personally, can suggest is to use frameskip. A value of 1 should be good enough.

1920x1200 and anti-aliasing?? You are so lucky... Sad

EDIT: Character fur, grass, etc. are generated by the game in realtime, and do neat things like flutter and bristle. Epic graphics, but epic amounts of calculations for one's processor, too.

Summary: The game works superbly. Try this:
  • Download the latest SVN
  • Use D3D11 or OpenGL
  • Don't touch any settings except "Enable OpenCL" (main config) or "Enable CPU->EFB Access" (graphics plug-in config). (Can anyone confirm that the former enabled and/or the latter disabled speeds up the game?)
  • Crank the game's Watermark Tightness to 1000 to avoid FIFO warnings
  • Try a frame skip of 1 for more speed.

Please please please can more people confirm that SFA is working (EDIT: and also post details such as how many FPS you got)? Thanks! Smile

And thanks again, Blaster!

Still getting random crashes, but game speed is faster than ever.

Unfortunately, fps still drop to below 20fps in ThornTail Hollow when looking at the entire field. The frame rate is VERY inconstant.

Questions: Dlist caching do something for this game?

And per pixel lighting?

And with "Emulate disc transfer rate" on, I don't get past the Rare logo. This has something to do with the Watermark Tightness set to 1000?

EDIT

OK, if the game is playable from beginning to end, there's GOT to be something I'm doing wrong. I successfully beat the second Arwing level, but when the image fades out, there's just blackness, nothing happens and the entire emulator crashes.

Will enable Panic Alerts to see what the hell is going on.
Mine will work, but the cutscenes are painfully slow.
Not yet completely tested, but it seem to me that I get some speedup disabling the option "Enable Idle Skipping" and with "Enable block merging" and "Distance Alpha pass" enabled in game properties (I use OpenGL video plugin). I also use OpenAL in the audio plugin (it's faster, at least in the opening scene)...framelimit off and "Enable Audio Throttle" on.

I got to DarkIce Mines (and well beyond) finally. Had to use OpenAL instead of DirectSound. This had no difference in the game's audio, but let me get past the second Arwing level. No problems after that, the emulator crashed only when I quit playing Tongue

These settings should be stickied on the first post, by settings I mean tkruk2's post and that weird thing about OpenAL on this game.
Reporting some issues.

- Game stutters and skips like crazy and framerate dips quite a bit, more noticeable when running at higher speeds. Other than the frequent dips and stutters I am able to run the game at full speed.

- Shadows are messed up in this game, they are really distorted sometimes depending where you walk and sometimes the wrong shadow is displayed (quantizers issue?)

- When you go to the warp stone even after the first time when you give him the rock candy, the first cutscene and audio plays for subsequent visits to the warp stone. This seems to be a core issue rather than an issue with the audio plugin, even happens with the LLE plugin.

- I can't seem to use the find command in Snowhorn Wastes to get Tricky to find the frost weeds, it simply won't let me.

- Audio issues with the HLE plugin, the music skips and misses key notes in the music, LLE plugin works fine of course.

- Graphics issues, such as flying through space there are big squares like the issue in Endless Ocean with the Bubbles and Sonic Adventure 2 when grinding.

The game seems to have quite a few core, audio and graphics issues, it's amazing that it still is able to run fine despite these issues.

I updated the OP and quoted X2D (I hope you don't mind, buddy Wink )
Sorry not keeping things up-to-date.

I can confirm this. Framerate is totally unstable and can be at 60fps one moment, and below 20fps on the following second.

The next two issues pointed also happens to me. About HLE, it's true too.

This is strange, I managed to pass this part not long ago, AFAIK, it was still in this month.

For me it only happens on DX9. DX11 is fine.
Ah, so it's a DX9 issue. What about OpenGL, is that an issue as well no?

And yeah I can't use the find command to get the frost weeds, it may be related to the build I am using or a recent issue. There were quite a few bugs in the past that only affected 64-bit builds and vice-versa, the 32-bit builds.
