I have had this on version 4.0-1403 which I use for general use

And 4.0-648 which I tried out today for netplay

Whenever I load up a game, stop an emulation or even try to change controller settings I get "not responding" for around 20 seconds.

It's the worst at stopping emulation where it completely crashes: http://i.imgur.com/h1MKbSv.jpg

I even tried x86 for dolphin 4.0-648 and it still crashed.

Note that when I actually play the game, I don't have any unexpected issues, though I do get bad audio skipping, which is to be expected since I'm on a shitty laptop. What can be done? I'm on windows 7 64-bit btw.

I don't know much about computers and dolphin so please explain simply as if I'm a retard if you know what the issue is.
Posting screenshots of your settings may help with diagnosing the problem.
This wont really fix your issue, but set your full screen resolution to auto.

It sounds like your computer is missing some important files.
1) Google "DirectX Web Updater" and run that
2) make sure you have visual c++ 2012 and 2013 (both x86 and x64) installed
3) Make sure you have windows updates all installed
4) Under Nvidia control panel, set Dolphin to a high performance profile. Follow this guide on the GPU info: https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-unofficial-laptop-performance-guide
I already have DirectX 11, windows update is fine and I've already followed that guide for best performance. Going to get the c++ though since I don't have up to 2010.

Holy shit it actually worked just by updating c++. No more annoying crashes.

Would c++ do anything else to improve dolphin? I don't really know what it is.
C++ "adds" code support to your OS so either new or old programs can run easily on your PC.
Are you using Mayflash drivers? They used to make my Dolphin crash on ending an emulation if that helps.
It's the mayflash I think which is causing this crashing. After installing c++ 2012 and 2013 I tried it out without it and it was fine. With mayflash it got the "not responding" message as usual. Below is what I'm using, I only use it with the gamecube controller on dolphin.

In my programs list however this is installed for it. http://i.imgur.com/lZGbmt7.jpg

Is there anything I could do about this?
It crashes on the control configuration and it's really annoying. Anyone not got any ideas?
Unplug any webcams if you have any.
