Dolphin, the GameCube and Wii emulator - Forums

Hey guys new to the forums here. I've been playing around with dolphin for about 2 days now and have some stutter and FPS drop issues. Here's my build

AMD FX-6100 OC to 4.4Ghz
8GB Dominator Ram 1600mHz
MSI OC 7870 stock 1050 core and 1200 mem (further overclocked to 1160 core and 1450 mem)
H100i water cooler
Antec 620W PSU
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 Motherboard
Samsung Evo 120 GB SSD (1GB read and write)
Sandisk 256GB SSD

I run most latest titles on ultra at 1900x1080p with no problem, heck most of the time they set it at that for me. My issue with Dophin for instance with Mario Kart for Wii, the menu stutters pretty bad, however, when I'm in the game it runs very smooth with a consistent 60fps. Occasionally it may drop off a bit here and there. What am I missing here? This also happens with Donkey Kong for Wii. I don't get it.

Your CPU is too slow for dolphin, all AMD CPUs perform terribly with it, you should probably read the FAQs before making a thread next time.

I'm starting to see that now. Looks like I'll be making my way for Intel soon. Any recommendations? I've been AMD for at least a decade now.

Get an i5-4670K and a Z87 motherboard if you want a serious Dolphin build.
If you just want a cheap PC to play most of the GC/Wii games, get and i3-4130 or i3-4340 and a H87 motherbaord

Got a Z87 board lined up. Would a i7 be overkill?

Yes, i7 is overkill (the 4770K to be exact).

The i5-4670k and i7-4770k perform basically the same in Dolphin
