What happens is that the sound stops working and a few seconds later the game crashes, anybody knows what’s causing that?
Why in the world are you still using 4.0.2? Use anything newer, latest builds have HLE fixed.

I downloaded a newer version and the game stopped crashing, however it’s also a bit more laggy.
Switch over to the D3D backend under Graphics
I don’t see the option to change that, in which tab is it located?

What games are you playing and what speeds are you getting? Additionally, please post your settings as screenshots.
Your CPU is fine for some games, but it hasn't aged well in terms of Dolphin's performance. Though newer builds should be faster than the last stable builds, if you set your IR to 1x and disable Anti-Aliasing and you still get slowdowns, this is highly indicative of a CPU bottleneck.
