If you're having fullspeed with 1x resolution, chances are you'll also have fullspeed with 2x. I can even play Xenoblade Chronicles at fullspeed with 4x (ok, with Tino's DirectX9-build, but still). If you have a fast PC, high resolutions won't be a problem for you.
I worded that wrong, what I was trying to imply is that it sounded like I was discouraged from using anything but native resolution, which is painful to look at after getting acclimated to seeing the games in full HD, that's all. 2x speed is enough for my needs, what would be the best builds to test if the older 4.0 xxx builds were slower?
As long as your GPU is up to snuff (and yours is) you really shouldn't have any noticeable issues playing in higher IRs. Jumping from 4.0 to 4.0-1569, I can play all of my games fine in 3x IR with the exception of SMG2 (which is alright at 1080p Auto - Window Size). GPUs stronger than the GTX 550 Ti probably won't even blink when using higher IRs unless you really play GPU intensive Dolphin games or push the IRs in 4x territory with AA and such. I guess it's really more prohibitive to people with Intel IGPs and entry-level dedicated GPUs. Mid-range and high-end GPUs shouldn't have issues under normal circumstances.

Got an MSI GeForce GTX 660, so I think I should fine, but I do wonder why I noticed speed degradation in games like Brawl but faster speeds in games like F-Zero GX, that just plain baffles me to no end. Maybe it was just my imagination. Here's to hoping my specs will be sufficient. Anyways, I'd best stop posting on this thread since I've only derailed it unfortunately.
Trying 4.0-1624, games like THPS3 don't seem as smooth, as in 60 fps doesn't feel like 60 fps.
You may need to wait for the shader cache to be generated. Play for a while and it should do fine.

Becaue Dsound works better, you self-rightous twit. My win 7 runs games fine with Dsound, where they stutter with Xaudio. Xaudio is SLOWER and DOES NOT have any inherent quality improvements. if the devs listen to you I'll just have to quit.
xaudio2 is lower latency, and doesn't suffer from any stuttering that dsound doesn't. Produce some kind of proof that it's slower as well, please.

A more specific way is that games do indeed hover between 59-60 fps pretty much 100% of the time, it just seems like the 60 fps isn't as "smooth" as it should be (no tearing, vsync is enabled), but more along the lines of occasional "jumping" or "stuttering". Nothing major. No idea on how long to actually wait for the shader cache to generate, but eventually my test with SSBM did go smoother. I'm thinking it's a psychological thing, trying to find something that isn't really there even when I think I "see" an anomalous behavior. It just seems randomly jumpier despite having a stable framerate, might need to screw around with settings more.

That's funny, I can run XAudio2 just fine on Windows 7, the DSound API is much worse on Windows Vista and beyond but good for older OSes. XAudio2 is the successor DSound and should be utilized as such, to blatantly claim, without any substantiated evidence to back up said claim, that Dsound is superior is a very foolish assumption to make. I would strongly recommend you study up on audio APIs before jumping to conclusions.

And... gone.
For a moment, I thought you meant DSound was gone

Maybe mess around with VSync (in Dolphin and in your GPU drivers, see if either makes a difference by itself).

Yeah, I'll experiment with force-enabling triple buffering, vsync, using GPU settings and so on, just to see, and my nVidia drivers are up to date.
