Well, right now, the only CPUs one can buy have two memory controllers, hence making two channels.
More on-topic, OP, have you tried correcting your error with the RAM yet? I'm betting that it was your problem.

Sockel 2011 Mobos can also use Quad Channel, you should look it up on Wikipedia.
