just wanted to necro this thread. Is there any rational explanation where the replacement of a Radeon 5750 with a 7770 would show a DECREASE in performance? I swapped it out the other night, and casually tested MarioKartWii and performance was a significant regression.

I would guess this would be a user config problem, but I just figured I would ask if there is something different about the architectures that might explain this...
Maybe if its not kicking into high power mode?
It was a known issue with 7700 series (compatibility) . I'm pretty sure it was fixed , not ?

Upgrade your graphics card driver to Catalyst 14.4 RC1 and force the GPU to run in High Performance mode.

OK. I will give it a try tonight.
Well that resolved my problem. However it also eliminated the need for a solution to begin with. After testing with 7770, I put the 5750 back in and performance was more than acceptable.

Just saved me 200 dollar video card upgrade. Thanks. (Going to hold onto the cash for the pirate islands)

And that's not all. For even more performance and stability, I also recommend updating the OpenGL driver and (optionally) doing some small tweaks.

For more info + step-by-step instructions on how to perform the update (with screenshots), check out the AMD GPU Performance / Settings Guide:

I haven't read the whole guide, but I am seeing references to WHQL and dll's. Not sure that guide will work. I'm running on ubuntu 14.04

NOTE: MS Windows only (7, 8, 8.1, 10) [for now]. A GNU/Linux (Ubuntu) update is coming soon.
