I don't use Facebook and never will because it's a deep violation of privacy, and I don't use social anything.
The new trend where very important Dolphin announcements are only posted on Facebook is starting to cause problems because I never get the news. There has to be a better way to do that.
I think it's also on twitter, or something like that.

Though, really, it nice if there was a thread that only devs could post in that only got posted in whenever there's an update with a significant change.
The problem is that the blog works best in long form. It's not very well suited for short bits. Do you have an idea on how to deal with this problem?
My vote goes for some kind of small front page update system or something that's separate from the blog.

Well, that's your own decision to not use FB, it's not really our problem. Short updates won't work on our current homepage, and nobody has thought of a better system so far.
Yeah, there's really no way around the fact the current system doesn't pertain to short updates. Nothing I can think of will fit the current design. I am in support of finding a way for smaller updates; but until there's a workable solution, it won't happen.
Wait, there are announcements? I never even knew since I don't use FB either. It seems strange that this would be done through FB instead of the projects website. Of all the organizations that I have seen go down this road I never thought this project would be one of them.

Why exactly won't it work with the homepage? The previous website had no issue with it so I don't see why it can't be done.

Edit:
To clarify I mean clearly there is some issue with the way its formatted on the current website (though I don't know what it is) but I'm sure a new section could be made specifically for announcements with a different format.
Email subscriptions would work. I would appreciate getting real email these days anyway, given that my inbox is nearly all spam :\
Yeah, I'd appreciate getting something either than "x has posted in Punk-O-Matic* group: slam it in" and "Overclock.net Subscriptions mm-dd-yyy" and "please come and play this game again, we'll give you 12 hours of normally-paid content, but toned down, and also only $2 of it". Hell, even if it could just break up the constant stream of "x has posted in Punk-O-Matic* group: SLAM", I'd be happy.

Really, that email subscriptions idea is pretty great.

* = a game that I'm part of the quickly-dying community of, and I never even play it anymore.
Why not create a stickied announcement thread and lock it so only mods/admins can post in it?

Lots of other open source communities do it and if I recall we used to do it here years ago as well (before the forum move).
