Put framelimit to auto, disable LLE on thread, and set the audio backend to an actual backend (OpenAL is the only option for Mac, I think)

I tried it, still makes melee crash when I select characters and press start to go to stage select.

I suspect that disabled MMU made the issue, try turning it back on.

Do you have any cheats on? I know the default cheats on Melee will crash that version of the ISO.

I tried turning it on but it still freezes

I actually tried turning it off before but it still freezes up

It sounds like you have a problem with your configuration. I can't exactly help you beyond telling you to just wipe everything and try again; which I'm sure you've already tried. Your ISO is good, I don't see any broken/stupid settings, and MMU shit should definitely be off (it'll just make the game run slower.)
You could try reinstalling dependencies, maybe? Or testing the very latest builds, I don't know.
