This is pretty messed up. I can understand that these games aren't "relevant" in 2014, and not making profit for Nintendo, but some of these titles (Pokemon Black/White 2, for example) have only been out for about two years. What this means is all of that work getting Dolphin to operate within the framework of WFC will be obsolete soon.

It would help if in the next few months, we manage to clone/emulate the servers, so games can be played over WFC still. Or at the very least, more capabilities than local play.

I think Nintendo is making quite a hefty mistake. Some of these games are outdated, but some aren't. A lot of these games have an active community following and are played by thousands daily (Mario/Animal Crossing/Pokemon).
Pretty Relevant.

I will drive with a Mii with the name Adolf Hitler (and this Mii will look like him) and then I will cheat like crazy. One day before the servers are gone. It might be fun Big Grin

We should totally do an MK party like that, with a bunch of Dolphin users getting Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin miis, getting on internet play at the same time and cheating like crazy. Big Grin (Although it might require quite a few people to participate if we don't friend each other and play with random people... =P)

How?

By Dolphin allowing online play (local), also to reverse engineer the WFC servers I assume is much easier in Dolphin.
Right now I'm trying to start a site to gather as many packet dumps from as many games as possible before the servers go down: http://save-nintendo-wifi.com/

If anyone wants to help that would be great, as well as a guide on how to get dumps. (Should be simple enough from Dolphin.)

Dolphin doesn't allow local online play, it relies on WFC just like a real wii. If a workaround is found for enabling online play after WFC shuts down it will be suitable for both. Logging packets from a real wii is trivial if you know what you're doing (including unencrypted SSL traffic)...
Dolphin does have a netplay feature, and has had it for some time (though it got a ton of improvements in the past year). The Global Melee community has been built around it. But Dolphin has WFC support too.

Netplay != online play, it's just local multiplayer with remote input. You can't exactly use it to play a head-to-head (non-splitscreen) FPS for example. Also any game that uses random elements causes desyncs, which makes it pretty limited.
