If the 3D monitor you're going to buy support displaying 3D images by receiving a "side by side" picture, then you can use TriDef 3D with latest development builds just fine (as far as you use Direct3D 11 - TriDef 3D isn't fully compatible with OpenGL yet).

TriDef 3D is also able to directly send 3D signals through an HDMI cable to a compatible TV/monitor like nVidia 3D Vision, but it works with any GPU, not only nVidia ones, however this mode doesn't work with DX11/OGL because current Dolphin builds still lacks the exclusive full screen mode that DX9 implemented in a veeeeery buggy way (when you enabled 3D Vision in DX9)...

Ok... How do I know if a monitor supports side-by-side 3D? Like, say, this one? I guess I don't until I try... Unless I'm being pretty dumb about something obvious right now. >.<

Anyway, thanks for the help! I will consider using TriDef (again, if my monitor supports it =P). I think I'll just go with it and if it doesn't work, return the monitor.
Well, I have no idea how you can see if it supports (I know that almost all 3D Smart TVs available at moment are compatible with side-by-side 3D). Try reading the monitor manuals, it may have an overview about supported 3D methods. And before buying anything you could try TriDef 3D trial to see which 3D modes are compatible with current OpenGL/DirectX 11 implementation used in Dolphin builds

Tip: if TriDef 3D ask you to toggle to full screen even when Dolphin already is in full screen it's because of the missing exclusive full screen mode, try other TriDef 3D modes...
@Jhonn

Yeah, I'll see if I can find the manual online.

So we shouldn't "recommend" the OP to use the builds with the feature he needs? Oh come on. Unless you actually plan on implementing the feature into one of the other backends in the future I don't see how you can criticize me for bringing up a legit solution.

Fixed that for you.
If you want 3d, use this program. It works amazingly! http://www.iz3d.com/select_download

They are no longer updating it, but it should still be available for download. It supports multiple types of 3d, but I used red and cyan because 3d glasses are cheaper than a new monitor.

*Actually, im not sure if it supports 3d monitors......so idk. Still might be worth a download.

Pre-4.0 versions had an option to enable 3D Vision. Yet newer versions - not sure if starting from 4.0, or some time before that - lack that option. Can anyone tell my why? And is there a way to play games in 3D, other than using an old revision?

And if not, does anybody happen to know how reliable the old option was? If not, then I'll just give up on 3D rather than waste money. (I understand that older versions are not supported anymore and all that, so I don't expect a full guide to get 3D vision to work, with various troubleshooting, for an old build.)

If that matters, I have a GTX 680. I'm not yet sure which monitor I will get, but I don't think it should matter - does it?

Thanks!

Yes you can using the fix in from this thread 3dvision works in dx11. Though I can't seem to change Convergence so 3d isn't optimal.

TriDef also works, however if you have a 3dvision specific monitor/glasses then Tridef won't work (it needs side by side or top down support from the monitor to work on nvidia graphics cards)

What monitor you get does matter, If you buy a 3dvision monitor then that's all you can use. A 3d TV or TriDef supported monitor will also do 3dvision if using modified monitor drivers with their supplied glasses. Using 3dvision kit on an unsupported monitor will not work.

I have a Samsung S27A950D Active 3d monitor which came with Samsung branded Tridef software and glasses, it works with 3dVision
Also a Sony KDL-50W685A Passive 3d TV which also works with 3d vision using modified drivers.
Out of the two, the TV delivers the best 3d experience with almost non existent crosstalk.
