This might be considered a spammi-ish question, but I am planning to get a 3D monitor. I would mostly use it to play Dolphin games in 3D (with Nvidia 3D Vision). And my question is, well... Does it work?

Pre-4.0 versions had an option to enable 3D Vision. Yet newer versions - not sure if starting from 4.0, or some time before that - lack that option. Can anyone tell my why? And is there a way to play games in 3D, other than using an old revision?

And if not, does anybody happen to know how reliable the old option was? If not, then I'll just give up on 3D rather than waste money. (I understand that older versions are not supported anymore and all that, so I don't expect a full guide to get 3D vision to work, with various troubleshooting, for an old build.)

If that matters, I have a GTX 680. I'm not yet sure which monitor I will get, but I don't think it should matter - does it?

Thanks!
The option is gone because d3d9 is gone.

Oh. So it was only for D3D9? I take it there's no real way to play in 3D in newer versions then?
Not on the development builds but the official release still supports it (4.0.2). Just use that.

You could also use the Unofficial D3D9 Builds

Please don't. It's a shitty, inherently-flawed backend and we really don't want respectable users to waste their time with that issue-prone one-developer fork of Dolphin.
Says you. I still use it and it does have some clear advantages. This thread being a good example of one of them.

The fact that it might have its use cases doesn't change anything about what pauldacheez said. The DX9-Final branch indeed is inherently-flawed (just look at the commit history for details) and we indeed really don't want users to waste their time with it.
Ok, thanks guys. Can anybody tell me if it's reliable enough to be worth buying a 3D monitor just for that though?

magus

I like the Dx9 build. I mean I understand it has bugs and flaws but the difference comes up when either (a).you can play with bugs and flaws or (b.)you cannot play at all.

By cannot play at all, that means for some users the newer versions play at a much lower framerate to where those people will not use Dolphin at all.

I mean if you wanted to get rid of these users, you can just stop the dx9 unofficial build and get rid of older builds with Dx9.
