Is there any way to run the Homebrew Channel onto the system menu in Dolphin without having to use a NAND dump?

While trying various things I discovered that Bannerbomb itself seems to work fine but the boot.elf never launches and I'm left at a black screen even though the boot.elf I tested with (povray) works just fine if I run it directly in Dolphin. And no, opening the hackmii installer directly through Dolphin didn't work.

As for what I'm specifically doing, I want to run Riivolution game patches (other than Newer Super Mario Bros Wii) in Dolphin, but Riivolution supposedly requires AHBPROT. As an AHBPROT tester I've been using Devolution since it will explicitly complain when AHBPROT is not enabled.

For reference I've tried using my own Wii NAND dump with the HBC installed twice now but zestig.exe always crashes for me even though I tried it on both XP and Win7 and I followed the instructions on the wiki to a T.

EDIT: Unless the wiki is lying, the Homebrew Channel is reported to be working mostly fine in Dolphin - no idea what ExtremeDude2 is talking about:

HBC is made to not work with dolphin

...which is why, according to the wiki, people have it running in Dolphin with only a few bugs?

...not to mention, yet again, that goes directly against what the wiki says.

Now I'm not saying I don't believe neobrain, but I really need to see it actually come from him directly. I tried to google for it but got no results, so got a link?

And yet again people don't click the green arrow...
Huh, I wonder why that didn't come up in a search result... I admittedly didn't use the forum's built-in search result because I always find forum searches to be much more finicky than just putting something like site:forums.dolphin-emu.org into Google.

A mod may close this thread if they so wish, but of course I'm still stuck with looking for a way to run ahbprot-enabled homebrew...

I specifically looked for it - I did not see one. However it is there now.

(that's a "/me" from sven on irc)

It's interesting that it starts nevertheless, since last time I tried it wouldn't work. Might have regressed or I failed at configuring things properly, don't know.. Smile

As the person that wrote much of that, that is NOT what it's saying. There was very little information on what it did at the time, all I had was testing from SephirothFanatic. However, what it does say is that it errors if you try to load something. Granted I didn't write "THIS ERRORS IF YOU LOAD SOMETHING" in giant text, but whatever.

wiki Wrote:Ideally, the functionality of this channel within Dolphin would allow the installation or launch of any homebrew or third-party application without the "IOCTL_ES_LAUNCH: Game tried to reload ios or a title that is not available in your nand dump TitleID xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Dolphin will likely hang now." or "Unknown pointer 0x83e10000 Continue?" errors appearing.

Furthermore, the only report of it working, even a little is the testing report from 3.0-176 which states "Starts and runs normally, except when reloading or exiting with the Home button." Note the lack of "I used it to launch homebrew" or "Launches homebrew". it just starts and runs, that's it. You really made a bit of a leap there. 3.0-176 is ancient, and it doesn't list the version of the homebrew channel that was used in the attempt. It very likely could have been before the traps that neobrain mentioned.

Anyway, according to the deleted crash problem that was on the wiki, 3.0-376 fixed whichever version of the homebrew channel he was working with at that time and allowed it to boot. This conflicts with the testing report of 3.0-176, but that's all we got. See the kind of stuff we deal with on the wiki? Anyway, even with this report of it working, it all depends on the version of the homebrew channel that was used. And we don't know the version that SephirothFanatic utilized. From what I understand he has long since vanished, so there is no way to ask (even if he remembered). So, test multiple versions of HBC with 3.0-376 if you are curious about reproducing his results.

EDIT: Wiki has been updated. Spells it out much more clearly now, and uses information from the recent discussions on this topic.
