#dolphin-emu Wrote:(2:04:42 AM) MaJoR: degasus HdkR, do you think the shared CPU-GPU memory pool system that AMD is making will be enough to make up for their crappy processors and make them competitive for dolphin?
(2:08:21 AM) degasus: MaJoR1: nope
(2:08:36 AM) degasus: all gpus support to read directly from main memory
(2:08:51 AM) MaJoR: so why is it slow?
(2:09:37 AM) MaJoR: I assume the separation, which the whole merged system is supposed to address
(2:09:41 AM) degasus: dolphin just generates a huge workload for both, cpu + gpu
(2:09:59 AM) MaJoR: kk
(2:10:09 AM) degasus: we usually don't wait on the gpu but for efb2ram + real xfb
(2:10:38 AM) degasus: so yes, it will speed up efb2ram a bit
(2:11:16 AM) degasus: but we'd still have to wait for all of the rendering, we just don't have to readback the texture twice
(2:12:00 AM) MaJoR: kk
(2:12:27 AM) MaJoR: so EFB to Ram would just run closer to EFB to Texture
(2:12:41 AM) MaJoR: which is already slow on AMD
(2:13:21 AM) JMC47: EFB2Ram runs like shit for me
(2:14:36 AM) degasus: MaJoR1: it will be a small speedup for efb2ram, but as we still have to wait for all of the rendering, it will still be much slower than efb2tex
(2:14:43 AM) MaJoR: kk

You know, that could be perceived as hurting one's credibility...

This is the only upside to this entire situation. Those delicious internet tears. Then again as they have fewer straws to grasp at they tend to get crazier as we witnessed with the launch of bulldozer. Oh well, at least AMD is trying I guess.

...it would seem that I'm the only one here that has no interest in fanboy drama.
Well I'm out, my question was answered so I'll be unsubscibing to this thread now. Have fun I guess.

It could also be perceived as a joke. Which just so happens to be what it was.

Spend a few years telling people their CPUs are crap, watching them stomp and snort and scream at us for telling them the truth, and you'll start to savor their misery as well.
^This, so much. I used to be one of those "everyone is entitled to their opinion" folks until these morons exposed my inner rage.

I am greatly disappoint, that is all.
I am still and probably will always be an AMD fanboy at heart, but I now have a 4670K in my desktop and enjoy laughing at these people as well. It's about the untenable position, not the preference.
I can understand face-palming at them, heck I do that all the time, but laughing at them?
Perhaps it's just not in my blood.
Edit:

Yeah we get that a lot. They think we're part of some sort of global conspiracy dedicated to masking the truth from them, until they actually try it. And then suddenly "holy shit they were right!". Sure we have all these benchmarks showing that haswell performs better in games and many users who upgraded from fx-8350 systems having observed a noticeable and measurable improvement but the AMD cpu must be faster because they just know in their heart that amd is "better for gaming". I can't even count the number of times I see that one on reddit on a daily basis but I don't bother to respond because in the end there is no convincing them, it's futile and pointless. They won't believe anything you say or accept the facts until they see it for themselves. That's just how they are.
I recently built a PC for a friend and while I was picking out the parts for him a coworker suggested he get an FX 6300 because "they work better with AMD graphics cards since they're both made by AMD". I could see the crazy in his eyes and didn't even bother trying to explain to him why he was wrong. It would have just antagonized him and made him more defensive. I just nodded along until he left and then explained to my friend why that is nonsense. Many of these people view themselves as saviors protecting people from the evil big business Intel trying to put down the underdogs. They want to believe that AMD products are better so badly that they will blindly believe any nonsense you feed to them that supports this conclusion, even if it is completely false. Drawing conclusions first then trying to find evidence to fit them is the opposite of how you're supposed to arrive at the truth. You're supposed to gather evidence first then develop conclusions based on that evidence.
It's not that AMD is inherently bad or even makes bad products. It's just that a lot of these people use such bizarre and irrational arguments to try and defend purchase decisions that clearly were not well researched or thought out. And that bugs me. I don't even know where they get half of these ideas from. All I care about is that people use evidence and proper logic to make decisions and present claims/conclusions. If you refuse to do that you are my enemy regardless of who you support, what products you buy, or what claims you make.
Edit:
After awhile it becomes apparent that the only way to deal with these people is to laugh at them. When they realize nobody takes them seriously for some reason (gee I wonder why) then they might begin to reevaluate their conclusions.
