Hi everyone !!

I'm new on this forum and I hope you guys can help me.

I'm currently using dolphin to play to my old wii games, but unfortunately i have some speed issues.
With super mario bros wii my speed is good (100%) unless there is water or sand in the level. In that case the game speed decrease to 60-70% !!
With mariokart wii, i can't play a race correctly, the game speed is at 70-80 ....

I'm using dolphin r4.0 on an home made ubuntu 13.04 x64 PC. With an intel core i5 3570K 3.4 Ghz, 8Go Ram and Nvidia geforce GT440.

I really don't think this is a matter of CPU. I've checked on a monitor, when the speed is decreasing, my CPU is only at 50-60%.

So, is this a problem of dolphin configuration or maybe it's just that my GPU is too cheap to run Dolphin ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

PS : Sorry for my english, I'm a french guy !

Dolphin is a dual core application, so that would be maxed.

What does that mean ? My CPU is not good enough ? what should i do ?

Overclock. Your "K" processor is made for this
Thanks, but before overclocking my CPU (and obviously change my cooling system), I just want to be sure.
It's kinda surprising, if my CPU is the bottleneck, why does it reach only 50-60% usage when it's laggy ?

Because you have a quad core CPU, and Dolphin only uses 2 cores. If you're using 100% of 2 cores, then that still = 50% CPU usage. The rest of the % over 50% is coming from one of the cores that Dolphin isn't using.

Also I don't think you can just brute force your way out of all the speed issues with dolphin by overclocking, because some of them might not even be hardware related at all.

If you're in the market for a cheap after market CPU cooler, I recommend a cooler master hyper 212+, or a 212+ evo. Looking at $25-$30. And its a bazillion times better than stock cooling.
Actually all my cores seems to be at 50-60%.

Here you can see everything on the screenshots.
I tried with default settings for the first two screenshots.
The third one with EFB to Ram
The fourth one with OpenCL and OpenGL activated
The fifth one with EFB to Ram and OpenCL and OpenGL activated

What do you think ?

Do I still need to overclock my CPU ? is this the only way ?
Nobody can tell me waht should I do ?
Overclock a bit more, until you can reach the desired performance.

Heldagrif

I have the same processor, but mine is clocked to 4200mhz I have a 650ti with 2 gb of ddr5 I am getting 28-30 fps on windwaker. This sucks, was hoping to record footage.
