What other games have you tried and what performance have you obtained?
im getting bad 39-40fps in mario kart wii, which was basically the same FPS I had when I was running with a i5 750.
What dolphin builds have you tried?
I thought you said that you fixed the performance issues.
I thought I did, I was only testing out my FPS in the main area you start at in SMG. I then played the first level and it started to lag again. I tried out SMG2 and that was even worse, I couldn't even get 60fps on the lowest
settings available, I was getting 55fps in that first part where bowser appears on 640x528 and no AA.
I did try the 4.0 stable release but that didn't make any difference, I also tried my 3.0x release which seemed a bit faster but still had lag in certain areas even on low settings.
Would it be my HDD? its pretty old now, and I cant remember the last time I defragged it. Usually older HDDs will just cause slow loading times, Although I've read some people getting increased FPS after that reformatted their
Hard drive.
Maybe someone could upload their dolphin version and I could test it out?
HDD speed would not cause this. The first level of SMG2 is particularly demanding. What kind of performance do you get in the rest of the game?
OpenGL is a lot slower in the newer revisions because vertex streaming hack got removed. D3D is a lot faster even on nvidia cards now.
drhycodan: ARB_buffer_storage does the exact same thing that VSH did, thus obsoleting it. The fact that it doesn't work for some reason on your system (and others) kinda sucks, yeah, but not everyone's having that issue.

I haven't tried out the rest of the level, once my framerate got crushed and then I set it to 640x528 with no enhancements and still didnt get 60fps I gave up. Ill give it another go though.
openGL might be the issue, I know that it was slower for me then direct11 in the older builds.
Would it be my LLE files?
Would buying a new GPU do the trick? I bought the 660 thinking it would do the trick as I always read that it was the CPU which did most of the work.
Have you disabled the power savings feature in the nvidia driver and in Windows? Anything faster than a 4670K at 4.0ghz should not have framedrops in SMG - no framedrops that last longer than 1 second, anyway.
Uncheck the "Enable cheats" button too. I have heard some reports of that option slowing things down.
