Just 16$ and you will be able to have the similar performance as i3 4130 . So why not ?
HD 5550 has 51.2 GB/s memory bandwidth and 128 bit memory bus . In theory , it should be able to handle 3x Internal Resolution (1080p+) , no AA , 16xAF
5550 will definitely be able to handle dolphin, without issue, especially at 720p. 720p screen set to Auto (window size) will be less taxing than 3x or 2.5x IR, and will display nicely.

just sayin'.
kinkinkijkin Wrote:I think, though, that, since the A-series processors are derived (even if greatly derivative) from Phenom II
Not really.
3000/3000m series APUs are based on llano cores (a newer slightly improved version of the stars and husky cores that phenom II cpus are based on)
5000/6000/4000m/5000m series APUs are based on piledriver cores
7000/6000m series APUs are based on steamroller cores
Bulldozer and piledriver were rebuilt almost from the ground up so you can't really call them derivatives of 10h family cores.
kinkinkijkin Wrote:and the G3220 is a pentium G, you should get the A8, or possibly even an A10-6800k/5800k, since it's obviously in your budget if the G3220 + GPU is in your budget. (I've seen no GPU worth buying to replace intel HD that costed less than $50)
Well an 8570D is slower than a 6570 which can be easily purchased for $60 (within his budget). A 6450 is almost as fast and can be had for $40. Apparently he can somehow afford a 6750 which is even better. Basically the Intel system with a discrete gpu will give him a faster cpu and faster gpu for the same amount of money. So there is really no downside.
While the A8 can probably get close to the performance of the Intel cpu it will consume significantly more power and generate significantly more heat just to get close. Which is not good for an HTPC build.
Giuliano Wrote:I found the G3430 (Haswell 3.3GHz) for 16$ more, do you think it is worth to invest money compared to the G3220?
in my box of old hardware I found a HD 5550 512M DDR5
you think is enough for 720p? (mario kart, DK country, new SMB)
Yes and yes.
