Yes, I know I'm ban evading, sorry. But please hear me out before you ban me and delete this thread.

I was banned for piracy. This is, please excuse my language, but this is utter bullshit. Not that you ban for such an offence, but the fact that I was banned for such when I did no such thing. Yes, I may have said that I downloaded my game, but I downloaded it from the disc that I own, that I bought from a store that sells games. From the game disc that I bought with my own money. I'm playing the game in the other room right now! It's in my Gamecube, waiting for me to hit that Start button and resume playing.

But I got banned for piracy because you have a hair-trigger for bans.

I would not be so upset if I had not been in the process of explaining this when I found out that I was banned. I went to submit my response explaining that what I did was not illegal, that owning a copy of a game that you bought and only copying it for personal use on one computer was not piracy. Then I couldn't submit it because I was banned forever.

Please give me a moment while I calm down and put together a less spirited, more logical post that hopefully doesn't offend anyone any more than I may already have. I apologise for my brash tongue and any insults I may have implied.

On to the subject of my post, a ban appeal system would be nice. Perhaps give them a couple of days or a week before they are fully banned, or maybe even a warning system, so that they might explain their actions or learn not to do it again while still being able to contribute to the community. In my case, I didn't feel the agreement in signup was adequate in explaining what would happen if you broke the rules, or even adequately explained this particular rule. I simply thought it meant not to encourage downloading or speak of what website you downloaded things from or ask about it. I thought that mentioning it in passing was still acceptable, if frowned-upon. This is what I understood from what I read.

Now I realise that the appeals would probably be full of dumb cases of people just being mad, but if they fail to present a logical reason why they should not be banned within the time period given, you can delete them and have done with it!

Hmm? Oh, where were those rules? I only remember a generic one that basically said "Don't stir up trouble." And by "I downloaded it from my disc" I mean that I put my disc in my CD tray (it fits nicely into that smaller circle) and copied it to my computer for personal use. I suppose "download" isn't an entirely accurate term, but I'm not good at recalling concise words to describe things, despite knowing many. I use fallbacks when I can't think of the specific term (which I guess in this case would be "copy," though that doesn't feel quite right) and in this case the generic fallback for getting a file onto my computer is "download." I apologise for this confusion.

Also, where were those rules? I don't remember them being linked when I signed up.

Concerning a "Ban appeal" system, file a bug report on the MyBB project for that, we don't develop the forum software ourselves.

And for future reference, the correct terms are 'rip' and 'dump', because downloading implies it it happening over a network. If it helps, the most commonly used tools for dumping/ripping all either have dump or rip in their name, eg cleanrip, rawdump, friidump.

Fwiw, you can copy a game disc from a console over a network to your computer using homebrew, which technically is "downloading", but none of us can read minds, so users should always use the correct specific terminology to refer to the overall process (which as AON3 said is "rip" or "dump").

This still smells like BS to me. The OP doesn't know the correct terminology for what he claims to have done, and he also claims to have ripped a GC disc with his PC - something which is extremely unlikely unless he had decent knowledge of how to do it.

Have audio CD's been dead for long enough that we have a generation that doesn't know what ripping is?
