Hey fellow Nintendo fans,

I've been trying to get Twilight Princess to run properly with HD textures (Ty Anderson's pack for the Wii version). I just can't figure out why my PC can't keep up a high FPS. I fear I must be doing something wrong.

First of all, you can check out my PC setup in my profile, but in short this is it:
i5 processor, 8GB RAM, XFX Radeon HD7950 Black Edition Double Dissipation (3GB) video card. I run a monitor and TV at once, so far I've only tried the monitor (which has a lower res than the TV).

Now from what I understand, that should be more than enough to play Dolphin games in HD. (I can run all PC games at max settings.)

I tried several versions of Dolphin (3.0, 4.0, some revised build that came with GC TP HD textures... and now trying 4.0.2). When I try DirectX11, I get lots of glitches, like messed up textures and interface. DirectX9 seems to work as intended but..... it's incredibly laggy.

This even occurs when I run 2x native resolution, no AA, with custom HD textures and texture cache: fast. (When I select 'safe', it hardly loads any custom textures...)
About the HD textures, I just placed the folder 'RZDE01' (which is Wii TP NSTC) in the folder Load\Textures. I didn't change anything to the folder, even though there are multiple variations on the same texture (like Link's hair color). Do I need to fiddle with any of that? (By the way, if I want to use another hair color, how do I do that? I tried renaming the textures, but that did nothing.)

I uploaded a screenshot of my graphical settings: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-opGlosN9WZQ/UsNLuFbVDgI/AAAAAAAAE4k/jogHWIKg0NQ/s912/Dolphin%2520graphics%2520settings.jpg or a bit higher res of the pic: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/iMR23LQQCeZMvfwcmYgsptMVPKWsCTMSaMzQZ9g4z8Y?feat=directlink

What else do you need to know to see where the problem lies?
Thanks SO much. Heart I loved TP back in the day and I'm looking forward to playing it in HD.
Try lowering IR and AA. Also, specify the i5 you´re using; some are very fast and some are slow.

Use CPU-Z to look for the model.
Thanks.

As posted in my profile: Intel (Quad) Core i5 3350P 3,1GHz.
And it also happens when I play without AA... What's IR?
AA (anti-aliasing) is used to make lines appear sharper. IR (internal resolution) is used to increase the resolution of all the in-game textures and features.

Try putting your Fullscreen resolution to Auto, and putting the IR to 1x and the AA to none. If you're still getting a lag, then it isn't a problem with your graphics card, but either your CPU or textures.
Thanks.
Ok, I tried it with no AA, 1xIR.... but with the HD textures. And sometimes it would get laggy (even the music stuttered). The whole thing looked ridiculous by the way. Wink

Now when I didn't load the HD textures, it ran fine. Even with 3xIR and 4xAA.

So I assume these HD textures are the problem. Does anyone have experience with that? If my PC can't load them, what can? The pack was released years ago and my PC is powerful enough to run all latest games on the highest settings. Undecided
Would it be an idea to half the size of all these textures, resulting in a better performance (but slightly uglier graphics)?

Zelda TP require i5 3570k @ 4.5GHz or equivalent CPU to run full speed (or close to full speed ) in Hyrule Field . Your CPU can run most other places full speed except Hyrule Field . In other word , you have CPU bottleneck

Ah thanks, that's useful to know.

Is that with HD textures or without? And do you think it would help if I used a program to half all the textures in size? Shy
I heavily disagree with the 4.5 GHz CPU for stock Twilight Princess. I get 34 fps in the late game Hyrule Field using a Core i5 3570K at 3.4 GHz on master builds.
with LLE backend and EFB copies to Ram ?

So is there any way for me to run TP with HD textures?
