I haven't tried it but you might need to have background input checked. If the game window loses focus no input is received without it checked in the wiimote/gamepad settings.

Dolphin can recive the 'return' message, but no the 'x','c' ... and windows 8's softkeyboard had no 'Up' and 'Down' key
Having a similar issue and don't want to hijack the thread, but also didn't want multiple threads talking about the same thing. I downloaded the latest dolphin (4.0.2) on a windows 8 tablet with touchscreen. I'm also using comfort on-screen keyboard and it will recognize the keys for the dolphin program (esc to exit for example). However, it won't recognize any of the functions for the gamecube controller. When I go into the controller settings the device is blank.
I doubt dolphin will recognize a virtural keyboard as input
But is that the same keyboard you use?

Correct, the youtube poster in another video said he was using comfort on-screen keyboard which I have installed and setup. I don't know if he is using another version of dolphin, but I've tried dolphin 3.5 as well as the latest version. I've played with lots of settings and no matter what I change the device is blank. The gamecube is set to use the standard controller, but I've tried all options as well.
And what game are you trying to play?

I've only tested one, so there may be something to that: Mario Kart-- game seems to run fine-- good FPS and it recognizes the esc key so idk why it wouldn't recognize the others unless it had something to do with the device controller in the settings. I've tried it with the background input checked and unchecked as well-- going to try some more configurations and also try it without fullscreen. I'm running out of ideas though.
