What do you guys recommend for a case that isn't too expensive or too loud and will fit the typical motherboard/PSU?
I'm very partial to this case. Not a lot of bells and whistles (or neon LEDs, ugh).

I also like this one for a higher-end and sturdier build.

Lian Li branded a third party case not that long ago and I actually liked it pretty well, but it has been discontinued on NewEgg. You might find it elsewhere.

Okay so I am having cold feet on going the ATI route. Although it seems the performance champ the drivers - especially linux drivers in case I don't want to buy windows - make me skiddish.

Also now I really want to experience 1080P dolphin games in 3D. Will that be asking too much of a GTX 560? How about a GTX 760?
Your cold feet are warranted. Nvidia makes better drivers. Period.

The 560 has more memory bandwidth than the 650, which makes it a good choice. The 760 is an excellent choice if you can swing it.
I did it today. Here's what I bought:

Case - Fractal Design Midi R2
Power Supply - EVGA 600B
CPU - Intel Core i5 4670k
CPU Cooling - Antec Kuhler H2O 1250 and a tube of MX4
Mobo - MSI Z87 G45
Ram - 2X4GB Kingston HyperX
GPU - MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB

I'm still warm towards that noctua air cooler as the temp measure rather than keeping the AIO that I bought, since my heart has always been set on a true custom water loop and even de-lidding the processor. But sometimes we just do things on a whim and this might just pay out for me in the intermediate future.

Plan on getting the system fully up and running this weekend. First order of business is probably Baten Kaitos undub. I played part of the first disc of my copy on gamecube a long time ago and just forgot about it. Think I should need to overclock for that game?
Tested out baten kaitos at stock speed (3.4ghz) - playable but noticably laggy at times. Tommorow i overclock.
At the time of the earlier post, my power saving settings were, unknown to me, on a setting which was throttling the CPU down below 2ghz.

At stock speeds, Baten Kaitos seems to run pretty damn well.
Skyward sword definitely asked me to OC

I overclocked to 4.2Ghz and Xenoblade played almost perfect, except for a few hitches. I am now trying tp get my system up to 4.5ghz but right now just keep slightly missing the mark on stability testing. Will update.
4.5GHz cannot be done safely without water cooling and delidding. Be happy with 4.2GHz.

Is this even needed? Most games should work just fine at 4.2GHz (and even at stock clock btw)

I was pretty much getting 4.5ghz stable without ever exceeding 75 degrees celcius in a hot room even on the more strenuous stress tests, with an uncore at 4.4ghz and voltages kept below 1.25v . Seemed pretty safe to me, and I didn't delid it. That said I was getting a bit sick of tweaking and stability testing so I'm running it at 4.4 ghz which so far has passed all my stability tests with much lower temps and voltages. But I really don't doubt I can get it 4.5ghz if I had the patience for it.

I dunno, I feel like there were some frame dips here and there based on a bit of testing, and I know it wasn't the GPU since these were happing at lower internal resolutions and AA. Perhaps I just have to optimize the software for every game.
