From Haswell on the multiplier is fully locked
well BLCK is way to go if he wants to. but stock haswell is fine for now
Base clock modification is only unlocked on K edition cpus as well. You cannot overclock a non-K haswell cpu, period.

You must have some damn good eyes then. I can't see any difference between 1-2ms monitors and 4-8ms monitors (GTG).

masterotaku Wrote:Now I have to ask for your help: how can I clone from a partition (not the whole HDD) and make it boot? Last time I tried, the partition was cloned fine, but the PC couldn't find the OS. I suppose it's because the small "reserved for system" partition wasn't copied, but I don't remember seeing it in the cloning program I used. Maybe Norton Ghost will see it...

Without more details about what you tried to do and how you did it I can't answer that.

masterotaku Wrote:Two things bother me about that Noctua: the massive size and that it doesn't have PWM fans. I'll think about it, though...

1. All good cooling systems have large heatsinks. There is no getting around this. You can blame physics for this one.
2. Who honestly cares about PWM in cooling systems?

I'm not talking about pixel response time, I'm talking about sample-and-hold vs strobing backlight. In a bit more than a week I'll tell you my opinion about Lightboost. I know colors, brightness and contrast won't be good, but what I want is motion clarity.

OK, to put it simple: HDD had 2 main partitions, one for the OS and other for games and whatever. Instead of cloning everything, I just cloned partition C. And it wasn't enough to make it work, since there wasn't a boot partition in the new HDD. That's what I think I did.

I don't know, should I care? How can I control the fan speed then? I've never used an aftermarket cooler.

Ontopic: if you overclock the BCLK, you must be careful about RAM speed, because you'll surely need to modify the memory multiplier.

Depending on the software, there's typically an option to clone the boot sector of the drive, which is what you need to do. Another option is to clone the main partition and then boot from a Windows install disk and do a fixmbr/fixboot or bootrec /FixMbr bootrec /RebuildBCD for Vista/Win7.

Not since Sandy. They untied it from the FSB.

No.

By changing the voltage. There will usually be a knob for this included with the HSF.

The knob controls a variable resistor that changes the resistance of the circuit and therefore the current flowing through the fan. Thereby changing the strength of the electromagnetic field in the fan which increases/decreases the fans ability to move against the friction generated by the bearings. Thus changing the angular velocity.
