They've said this about every architecture for the last decade. When I see their openGL drivers improve I will believe them. They have every reason to say they will improve them. Whether they will actually do it is another story.

What are you talking about? On what basis are you comparing it to the dreamcast? The prototypes aren't even out yet let alone the release product. And we barely know anything about it so far.

They will most likely be super expensive compared to the PS4 or the Xbox One and will have a weaker library by the time their life spans are over unless major game developers decide to make games for Linux. The dreamcast was pretty amazing but failed to defeat the xbox or gamecube. It obviously couldn't beat the ps2 as the ps2 could defeat all three of them by itself. (I'm talking about sales of course.)
Many more games run on Linux than ever before. Also they can always dual boot into Windows for Windows-only games.

Examples of good games on linux that run on par or better than their windows counterparts? Why just why would i buy a steammachine just to install windows on it? I could just use my pc that I already have. ( I being a general statement.)

And what evidence do you base this speculation on?

DatKid20 Wrote:will have a weaker library by the time their life spans are over unless major game developers decide to make games for Linux.

We also have the ability to use windows like AON3 said or in my case streaming from a windows system. A have a powerful gaming machine in my bedroom and a weak htpc in my living room hooked up to a 32" 720p HDTV with some controllers. For me streaming high end games from my gaming rig would be a dream come true.

Now think about the reasons why it was defeated sales wise. Think about how you could apply any of those reasons to steammachine. This is where your random correlation falls apart.

Even more so when you understand the economics behind video game console development and deployment. These consoles have to generate a shitload of sales on both the software and hardware side in a short amount of time otherwise they are not worth it to the company deploying them to keep supporting them. That's why the dreamcast was killed off. It had millions of units sold and a large library of good games before the ps2 and xbox even came on the market. But it wasn't enough. They didn't have the market share to keep it going. Steambox does not have that problem. It can have a small niche market and still be very profitable. It is literally just a PC endorsed by valve. They don't need it to be in every living room to be able to sell their software like microsoft or sony. It's just providing steam users with another way to play their games.

Simplicity mainly. A easy to setup and use design that's already HTPC ready out of the box. We can't say much more yet because WE DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT YET.
So you call my speculating bullshit by using more speculation? Makes perfect sense. Why do i think it's going to be expensive? It's supposed to be in your living room. That would mean that it's console size or smaller. Now think about any actually good console size pc and think about how much they cost vs how much performance they have. (basically the price to performance ratio)

I saw specs like this somewhere else as well. I remember some website said the highest config would have a titan but i don't know how true that is.

I decided to buy a athlon ii x4 760k. It came with Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon plus when i order a fm2+ motherboard I'll be able to upgrade next year!
DatKid20 Wrote:So you call my speculating bullshit by using more speculation? Makes perfect sense. Why do i think it's going to be expensive?

I don't. I haven't made any speculation about price. I merely asked how you seem to know that it's going to be expensive. Doing that is not speculation.

While I would hope they have some small models they might also have big models. We don't know.

Who says that all of the models will have high performance?

They said that they're going to have options for Intel cpus, amd cpus, amd gpus, and nvidia gpus. That's all they've said. They'll likely have many models covering each price point but again we don't know for sure since they haven't released any specific details.

According to the figures released by Valve, the demo units are smaller than an Xbox One but bigger than a PS4. Considering the Xbox One is the second largest console in gaming history, the demo SteamMachine isn't exactly small, but it would still fit fairly well in a home theatre environment.

Ars Technica put it well.

Ars Technica Wrote:With a total volume of 431.52 cubic inches, Valve's prototype is just a tad smaller than an Xbox One (449.28 cubic inches; 13.5" × 10.4" × 3.2") but a decent bit bigger than a PlayStation 4 (259.2 cubic inches; 10.8" × 12" × 2")

Of course, these are just the demo units. There will be a LOT of SteamMachine variations, many of which aren't even made by Valve. I'm sure smaller ones will be made.
They're releasing several prototype designs. None of which will likely be the final design. Nothing is set in stone yet so while you will probably be right nobody should be pretending to know how big it is *stares directly at other forum user*.
I would comment on something on find hilarious in your statement I won't.

All i did was restate a fact. What I said was repeated. The ones for the the living room will be console size or smaller.
