That Asus is overpriced . It has an outdated CPU like I mentioned before
i7 3537U is ultra low voltage Dual Core CPU , i7 4700MQ is latest Quad Core with higher clock speed . There is no comparison here , i7 4700MQ will crush i7 3570U without mercy , the same goes for Intel HD 4000 vs 4600

The difference between an i7 3rd gen and 4th gen wouldn't be that big would it? I'm not purely buying a laptop for dolphin you know and that Toshiba looks like its not very portable. I need it for school so I need something thin and lightweight.

Big difference
Look at Dolphin Benchmark
A Quad Core i5 4670k @ 3.4GHz is almost as fast as Quad Core i5 3570k @ 4.4GHz
i7 3537U is dual core . Although Dolphin is a dual core application , you still benefit 10-20% speed from background processing if you have a Quad Core CPU

Small form factor = less performance , less heat dissipation

When you hit the button to confirm your purchase was it $240 or $270?

It only told me $270 at the very end. This was excluding shipping mind you. I have other reasons not to buy the Toshiba though, such as the HD 4600 GPU which frankly sucks. If I were to play Dark Souls 2 when it comes out, it will barely be able to run it on low settings. That being said, I am aware of its size but it would be silly of me to get a computer as a student purely for emulation. I just want a very portable laptop that would be able to play some GCN games from time to time - and I'm pretty sure an i7-3537U + Nvidia GeForce GT 740M will be able to run them.
I don't know what happened to you but most likely you just made a simple mistake somewhere. If that's not the case then my next best guess is someone was selling it for $240 and that seller ran out of stock before you could make the purchase. Thus it selected another seller which was selling it for $270. You can select the seller manually though.

If it said you were going to pay $270 on the confirmation page and you hit confirm I don't know what you are complaining about. You literally paid what they said you were going to pay. They didn't trick you, lie to you, or mislead you. If you thought that was too much you shouldn't have hit confirm and should have bought it from somewhere else. But you chose to buy from them and now you are saying that you won't buy from them ever again because they charged you the amount of money they said they were going to charge you. That's ridiculous on so many levels.

For the record I don't really care about mobile hardware so I don't have any input on what laptop you should buy. There are plenty of other people here who will help you with that. I just saw your reason for not wanting to use amazon and felt I had to comment on it after the "lolwut?" moment it gave me while reading it.

Hmm that's not entirely true. I'm fine with how much I paid for it (what is 30?), but its the fact that it wasn't what it advertised. Who knows, maybe next time it'll charge me even more. That and like 90% of products don't even ship to Australia, so I don't bother with amazon.
Guys I think I have found the laptop of my wet dreams....

http://www.amazon.com/Computer-Corp-GE60-2OE-003US-9S7-16GC11-003/dp/B00CU9GKTO/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1376052391&sr=8-5&keywords=i7-4700mq

Looks like if I want this beast, I'll need to buy off Amazon then. MSI is reliable, isn't it?

EDIT: This is why I don't like amazon, see? I can't even buy a freaking laptop off of it to ship to Australia. Is it really that difficult? You can ship me headphones but not a laptop? This is really getting on my nerves. The MSI one didn't work, the TOSHIBA one didn't work. None of them work. Why can't there be an Amazon based in Australia when there's one based in Germany, the US and the UK?
Isn't it too much for your budget ?

Nothing is really reliable . You have to rely on your luck sometime
My friend who is studying in US bought an Asus ultrabook last year , he complained to me that he had to RMA 2 times but still not get a working keyboard (Now he doesn't give a damn about ultrabook 'cause he's using Macbook Retina 15")
Found something good, from a local dealer actually. Looks promising at $1050. It was the only laptop I could find ~$1000 that has good enough specs for dolphin. Maybe heating is still an issue, but it should suffice. Looks like I'm picking it up tomorrow. If anybody has any objections to it, I'm all ears.

i7-4700HQ (which is sweet Jesus apparently marginally better than the MQ) and GeForce GT 745M (sufficient)
