Yes. You said you were trying to fix that and you also said it would take you a few hours.

Also the transfer rate due to /appdata/ and the access denied issues are two completely separate things so I don't know why you brought up the former. You shouldn't need anything in the appdata folder anyways so just delete it.

And you haven't answered my question about whether the laptop denied permission to access the user folder after you moved it onto the external and installed the SSD.

It's quite simple once you realize that everything needs two things. Data and power. Except the power supply and case of course.
When I was using it with the laptop everything was fine. I also tried it on my wife POS laptop and I also had the same issue.

The reason I'm bring up the appdata is because I believe that was the reason why it appeared to be taking so long to give me ownership. As there's so many files there. Now when I double click on a folder it offeres me to permanently have rights to the folders, it takes a couple of seconds, more the more files are contained in the folder. So I believe originally it was working on giving me access to every single file including app data and that's why it appeared to be stuck - it wasn't, it was just going to take a very long time.

So what I did was manually give myself access to the main folder, and then moved everything out apart from appdata and then it was able to give me permission for everything else in about 2 mins.

The reason I brought up the transfer rate is because it is a similar issue. Just too many files.

You're probably right, apart from a couple of minecraft things I don't think there's anything in there worth keeping.
What OS was your laptop and your wife's laptop running?
Exactly the same OS. Windows 7 - Home Premium.
Weird.
