Dear Dolphins,

I have:

Intel I5-2300 running at stock (2.8ghz)
AMD Radeon HD 6950 2GB
8GB DDR3 1600mhz
Asus P8H61_PRO motherboard

I have learned all the lore, and been told all the tales - and it looks like my spec is in the 'very fast' category.

I have watched a few youtube tutorials, and played about with the settings... I managed to get F-Zero-GX peaking at 60fps but flipping between 30 and 50. Also the audio sounds very glitchy, I reckon the game would look pretty smooth but the sound is awful.

Is there a 'best' combination I can use? Any advice appreciated, I've made sure -everything- is turned off in the background (except AVG, maybe I could try disabling the net for a bit...) and can't get the performance up enough to play.

That should fix sound.

Try lowering the IR to get a higher frame rate.

F-Zero + LLE = no chance with his CPU

Awh man. That's the main one I want to play, is there a heirarchy of game system intensiveness, similar to the hierarchy of CPU usefulness?

I am probably going to upgrade to an I5-3470 as they're widely available where I am (South Thailand), would that do the job?
i5 4670k with Z87 mobo to overclock then ...
i5 3470 won't cut it

Not yet. But F-Zero GX is one of the most demanding GC games.

Try to upgrade to 3570K if you can. Or even better 4670K as admin89 mentioned it.
These CPUs are currently the best choices for Dolphin
If he buy i5 3570k , he will have to update his H61 Bios (H61 is Sandy Bridge mobo)
H61 is the cheapest/crappy mobo that everyone should stay away , it doesn't support overclocking . So he have to buy new Z77 mobo for i5 3570k anyway ....If not , the unlocked feature will be useless ...
why not just get latest CPU - i5 4670k and Z87 mobo
Just a few more bucks then he will have significant speed boost over i5 3570k

No overclocking for me... unless it's ultra minimal and doable with my board.
Try these settings in the video, getting much higher fps now
btw you won't get fullspeed with i5 2300 @ stock, there is needed i74770k or i5 4670k @4ghz to get fullspeed in quickrace

Or 3570K hugely overclocked
