Most i7 mobile CPU are quad core with Hyperthreading (4 cores 8 threads) , some M CPU are dual core like i5
All i5 CPU are dual core with HT ( 2 cores 4 threads)
Quad Core > Dual Core
i5 , i7 have turbo boost . i3 is the same as i5 but it has lower clock speed and no turbo boost
Haswell is code name of 4th gen Core I series i7 4xxxMQ which the latest CPU atm , Haswell is much faster than last gen Ivy Bridge i7 3xxxQM
Quote:you have a i5 480m, and i suppose it's efficient, but why not a i7 ?
Nehalem is code name of 1st gen Core series (i5 4xxM/5xxM ; i7 6xxM/ 7xxQM / 8xxQM / 9xxXM)
There is only 1 reason why I didn't get the i7 at that time (2-3 years ago)
i7 clock speed was too low
There was only 2 options for me at that time : either i7 720QM or i5 480M .I'm sorry but i7 720QM @ 1.6GHz is so pathetic compared to i5 480 @ 2.6GHz . With Turbo Boost , it only bump up to 2.4GHz with 2 cores active while i5 can bump up to 2.9GHz with 2 cores active

I'm glad that Intel has improved the clock speed recently . So I could buy i7 next time (2015)
Btw , There is i7 4702MQ benchmark result on
Dolphin Benchmark
i7 4702MQ is slower than i7 4700MQ but it chops off i7 3630QM completely
So you have a 1st i5 gen, and you can running games at full speed, because I guess there a big difference between 1st and 4th generation ?
Are these games demanding a lot : new super mario bros wii, f-zero gx (gc), fire emblem (both), ikruga (gc) ?
And generally, do gamecube games need high perfromance?
I read on dolphin's faq that dolphin doesn't use 4 cores, so is it enough (and cheaper) buyng a i5 2cores than i7 quad-core cpu ?
Quote:Are these games demanding a lot : new super mario bros wii, f-zero gx (gc), fire emblem (both), ikruga (gc) ?
Except F Zero , the rest are light weight games
Quote:So you have a 1st i5 gen, and you can running games at full speed
Depending on the game , you know ...
Latest Dolphin is more demanding than older version , my i5 can't keep up with it . That why I decided to buy new laptop in the near future
It would take i5 480 @
5GHz to beat i7 4700MQ @
3.3GHz

No , i7 is still faster than i5 (10->20%) because it has 4 cores : 2 cores for background processing , 2
pure cores for Dolphin while i5 : 2 cores for both background processing and Dolphin
Not mention 3rd gen i5 has lower turbo frequency , much slower clock for clock and 4th gen i5 is not available atm (Estimated release date : September 1, 2013 )
I'm thinking aboutbuying one ofthe 2 laptops you told me about, but if I decide to do it newegg doesn't deliver in france, amazon.FR hasn't such laptops. And about french selling sites they have only few 4700mq or 4702mq and very expansive ! Much more than those two.
Maybe some english sites have these cpu's and can sell to france, i'll see, but i don't know them good.
Is there some others haswell or ivy bridge mobile cpu similar to seeking ?
Sorry l forgot to seek in ebay.fr ! Actually l don't really like this site, so I Forgot To see it.
The Prices Are Better Than Other French Sites But unfortunately More Expansive Than Those You Gave Me.
Those you gave me cost 495 and 595 € without and with discrete GPU.
On ebay.fr the cheapest 4700MQ without discrete GPU is 639€ (whithout the shipping). So there is a difference of 145 € ie 190 $ for similar things and the hp doesn't have dvd writer which l want !
It's a pity...
About laptops in general ( not the very expansive ones) l heard that Toshiba and Asus were the best brands right ?
If I buy on ebay.fr a toshiba one with the 4700mq and as discrete gpu : geforce GT 740M 2gb And 8Gb DDR3 1600 will I be able to play actual pc games with max, or at least very pleasant, graphics ?
And what about playing pc games just with intel hd graphics 4600 ? is it efficient ?
nb : l know l said that l don't play pc games but for 40€ difference only l prefer add a discrete gpu, for some games, and l don't plan, for now, buying ps4 or xbox one.
Thanks.
ls acer is a reliable laptop brand ? l saw better offers (better graphic card and fhd 17,3"disp), but l didn't hear very good things about acer.
And about HP l heard (and l saw coz l had a HP before) that their laptops become more and more hot with time (with more noise).
ls this always true and for quite expansive ones too ?

Do some research , look at user's review / comment
Laptop is fragile unlike desktop . If you don't know how to take care of it then...you know what will happen right ?
Acer , HP , Dell , Lenono don't make gaming laptop but multi media laptop (except alienware brand of Dell). Multimedia laptop doesn't use aftermarket thermal compound (like Arctic MX-4 , IC diamond 7) but the cheap suck ass OEM thermal compound . OEM TC die fast So :

Totally expected
I bought an Acer laptop in Jan 2011 , I don't have any problem with it as long as it can play game
I didn't have much money to spend on a gaming laptop at that time because I needed a smart phone too
Btw , my Acer is a Japanese version with Japanese components (case from Mitsubishi , battery from Panasonic ...) which are quite durable IMO . Don't know about "World version" (US/EU)
If I needed a laptop right now , I wouldn't buy a multi-media laptop again but a 1000$ gaming laptop
