THE GOAL:

The goal of Project: Prime is to recreate the hit GameCube game, Metroid Prime, in HD using the power of Crytek's CryENGINE 2.'

THE GAME:

Metroid Prime is the first 3D Metroid game released on November 15, 2002. It was developed by Nintendo-owned Retro Studios and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo GameCube. It is officially classified by Nintendo as a first-person adventure, rather than a first-person shooter, due to the large exploration component to the game. It was also the first Metroid game to be released since Super Metroid, which was released nearly eight years earlier, though this only applies to North America as in all other markets, it was released after Metroid Fusion.
Metroid Prime was the first of the four part Prime storyline, which takes place between the original Metroid and Metroid II: Return of Samus. The title was later bundled with the GameCube in 2004. Like the rest of the series, Metroid Prime has a science fiction setting, once again allowing you to play as the bounty hunter Samus Aran. The story follows Samus battling the Space Pirates and their biological experiments on planet Tallon IV.

Project: Orpheon
In Project Prime, we are aiming for a darker, more mechanical feel, as was seen in the E3 showing from Retro. Orpheon now has no global lighting, and what lights it has are faded and dim from the destruction caused by the parasites.

Project: Phendrana
In Project Prime, we are aiming to bring a more stylized view in to Phendrana. There is now an excess of Sun rays, higher contrast in the ice to make it more realistic, and a touch of oversaturation.

Project: Overworld
In Project Prime, we are aiming for a more natural look in the Overworld. We are adding grass, trees, various other vegetation, and non-dangerous inhabitants. The Overworld is a vibrant natural Utopia, but scarred by the recently crashed Pirate ship.

We are mainly looking for modelers and programmers. If you think you have anything to offer this project, please speak up!
i wonder how they got on that license of crytek's engine o_O;
they paid? o_O;
Yes, I paid. Tongue

Totally worth it, it's by far the best engine I've used. EVER.

Engine came with game
Crazy project, I love it. Don't have any of the skills you require though. I knew there were fan made 2D Metroid games, but THIS...
but I must ask, how do you assure that Retro won't send you a cease and desist letter?
Same reason MP2D hasn't been canned. Same reason that Star Fox thing hasn't been canned. They really don't give a rip as long as you don't turn a profit.

If I get a C&D, I'll simply change the characters and maps just enough that they can't sue me, and continue on.

better then unreal engine? (have a hard time believing that)

also, ofc the engine comes with game but to do anything with it is the next step (which you need tools or documentation for afaik)
Wow that looks pretty nice. :O
Which program(s?) do you use to model everything? I just started working with C4D, but I don't think that I got the skills for this project (maybe I'll contact you guys in a few months). Tongue

Easily better. More powerful, more optimized, more options.

The SDK is included with the game, you have to explore the CD and run 'editor.exe' or something like that, and it will install it.

@ Che:
Me and Billy (who made the cannon) use Maya Unlimited 2009. I also use Autodesk Inventor Pro 2008.
can't wait for it Big Grin

so it's gonna be using the same engine that Crysis runs on? O_O
