Games like StarCraft 2 is a dual core application , you can check some benchmarks . i5 2400 beats FX 8350 by huge margin
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/697?vs=363
Even if you overclock FX-8350 , it's still no match for i5 2500k . Don't even think of i5 3570k or i5 4670k
Dolphin benchmark
http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-the-legend-of-zelda-the-wind-waker-cpu-benchmark
i5 2500k @ 3.3GHz beats both FX 8350 @ 4.0GHz & FX 8150 @4.6GHz
But I'm not going to spend a lot of money to only be good at dual core apps, the Xbox One and PS4 were a huge disappointment (one of the reasons for me building a pc) , both of those consoles however were built with 8 core CPUs, meaning that games will be developed for 8 cores, where the FX 8530 will easily excel the i5 2500k and the i5 3570k, I understand that those two are better for Dolphin, but... that's about it, besides other dual core apps, which are starting to become a thing of the past.
Aside from those CPUs , GTX 760 is released yesterday , it's faster than both GTX 660Ti and 7950 but cost the same amount of money as GTX 660
If only you built your PC today ...We would recommend GTX 760 over GTX 660

There is a widespread assumption by those with little understanding of cpu microarchitectures that cpus with more cores are always going to beat cpus with less cores as long as the application is multithreaded well enough to use all of the available cores to a significant extent. Unfortunately cpus are not that simple. As we have seen repeatedly the FX series cpus still manage to lose to Ivy bridge/Haswell cpus in a lot of applications that can use all 8 cores, especially PC games. Bulldozer/piledriver relies on CMT to achieve its higher core count. The xbox one and PS4 use an 8 core jaguar SoC that does not utilize CMT for multicore. So your assumption that these games are going to be well optimized for amds FX series cpus just because they both have 8 cores is wrong. There is also no certainty about how effectively next gen. games will be able to scale to 8 cores, given the difficulties. The fact of the matter is current games and emulators run much better on Intels offerings and so far we have no indication that this is going to change anytime soon. Intel is objectively the better choice currently for both of these things. Even if you OC.
I'm not necessarily trying to insult you for your product choices but I am trying to explain why the people here are going to recommend that you get an i5 4670K instead of an FX-8350. If you plan on running dolphin well it is highly recommended. There are lots of applications where AMDs FX series achieve better performance per dollar than Intels offerings, otherwise AMD wouldn't be able to sell them. But unfortunately emulators and games don't fall into that list of applications. Which is why people don't recommend them here. This is also why the FX 8350 isn't "better than the i5-3570k in just about every way stock by a little". I just wanted to point that out in the hopes that this won't turn into yet another AMD vs. Intel thread.....
I can still cancel the GTX 660, I'm going to get the 760 instead. Thank you for the recommendation. But I think I'm going to stick to the FX, even tho Intel is better with emulators, because I'm on a tight budget, and the performance per dollar is amazing. The money I saved allowed me to get a solid state, which is going to be great for loading things quickly.
I hope I can still cancel... if it does, definitely getting the 760 as it is not that more expensive on amazon, 40$ difference.
And maybe you guys are correct that intel cpus are better for PC gaming, but...

I just feel like this forums is SUPER Intel fanboy/biased, I mean seriously. I've used both, I understand that a 4 core AMD isn't as good as a 2 core Intel, but the fx 8530 is a pretty good CPU, give it a chance.
Edit: Amazon said they couldn't cancel it, which means I have to go through the process of returning it >__> , is it worth it, to get the 760?
I definitely would've gotten the GTX 760, but I don't want to go through the returning the process. I'm just going to use my computer for a while, and then sale it at a ridiculous price on craigslist because the people in my state are complete idiots and buy the gaming PCs on craigslist for 500$ + what it would cost to make it, and with the money I will buy the 760, or something better. Until then I will enjoy what I have. And as I promised I will post my results, I shall see if you guys were wrong or right about the FX. Because after I sell the PC, I can switch to intel, depending on how I like the FX.

Both FX 8350 and FX 8150 results are done by Dolphin users (AMD users) ...You know .
For most games , those CPU are fine but demanding games (I mean "very demanding games") that need LLE audio will not run full speed , not even i5 3570k stock speed could do that
garrlker Wrote:Sorry man, your pc won't be able to run demanding games in dolphin. Your cpu is too slow
is half-correct . Some demanding games like Xenoblade + LLE run just fine on i5 750 @ 3.8GHz
FX 8350 should be able to do that (if he overclock it )
Most games run just fine on FX 8350 , not those ridiculous demanding games though (The Last Story - From the moment you enter Lazulis City to the end of the game , Zelda TP + EFB copies to Ram + LLE audio - Only in Hyrule Field later part , Pokémon BR + LLE , and so on...)

Well thank fully I already beat Skyward Sword on the wii. Some games are just really demanding and mid-range components won't be able to handle them, but that's all I can afford. It'll be fine in PC fps games, I won't be getting 100s of frames/sec but all I really need is 30 for most games, I took that into consideration when buying the CPU. I did want the intel, but it was more expensive, and the 8350 performed better on some games, like I said I'll see how it goes, if it turns out to be bad, I'll try intel next rig. But one thing is for sure, HLE is something I will try to stick to if I can.

That tends to happen when you go on a gaming forum where every single application that the average user uses runs faster on comparably priced Intel cpus and with lower power consumption. Most of the applications that run faster on FX series cpus are either scientific, server, 3D content creation/rendering, or deal with image/video editing. How many of these apps do you think those people are running? The other thing to consider is the fact that people in those communities tend to have a lot of disposable income. They're usually willing to pay the $300-400 for a high end Intel cpu that will give them the best performance possible.
If you're curious how your cpu stacks up against others in dolphin you can view the compiled results of our cpu benchmark here:
