I had a problem with the controls on dolphin 3.5-367, but I found out that all builds before 3.5-1025 have the same problem for me. 3.5-1025 up to around 1032 crash along with 1379 and 1382. some builds like 1039, 1040, 1057 and 1092 work well with keyboard controls, but even at the default settings the frame rate is slow and some images aren't showing properly [for example in the wind waker intro the sun ray is seperated into pieces rather than being a circle].
can anyone recommend a good build for 10.7.5 or a way to improve the graphics and speed?
the stable one? yes i tried that too, the controls didn't work
thanks for the help guys. I found the possible root for the problem, the 'use fullscreen' mode was preventing the controls from working. once i disabled that dolphin worked, so 3.5-663 should work smoothly. fullscreen never brought problems before, but i can still use 1280x800 resolution.
May i ask about a specific problem for wind waker? after the story intro there's a black screen for quite some time before the game starts. is there a way to fix this?
Not 100% sure this is the same issue, but Wind Waker does have an issue where it sometimes hangs at a black/grey/white screen before/after cutscenes, when opening doors, and when getting items. This is fixed by using DSP LLE with "LLE on Thread" unchecked, but those both cause a good bit of slowdown (unless you've only got a dual-core CPU, in which case having "LLE on Thread" checked actually causes a slowdown).
wind waker can't load when either dsp lle recompiler and interpreter are checked. if i had the hle emulation checked along with dsp lle thread [which works] would that stop black screens?
I also read somewhere that if i save in hle before a cutscene or area where it goes black then i can't re-load in lle, is there a way to get around this?
If you're using save states, stop using those. Save states in Dolphin aren't nearly as stable as they are in other emulators, and can cause plenty of issues on their own. And they tend to exacerbate this issue in particular.
Save states made under HLE can't be loaded under LLE (and vice versa), but memory card saves have no such issue. And "LLE on Thread" doesn't affect HLE at all. In fact, if you have a dual-core CPU, "LLE on Thread" will actually cause slowdown, so keep it unchecked at all times.
If Dolphin's just complaining about some missing files (dsp_rom.bin and dsp_coef.bin) and you don't know why the hell I'm yelling at you about save states, you'll need to get a DSP dump off of a real Wii (or use the free reverse-engineered one available in newer builds – just copy the two files from those if you can find 'em). There's a guide here:

thanks. I got the necessary stuff, I hope you don't mind if i ask a few more questions:
-would i copy the dsp_rom.bin and dsp_coef.bin to 'applications>contents>resources>user>gameconfig or 'application support>dolphin>GC' ?
-i also downloaded the dsp rom that should help with the zelda code games. how do i use it?
-i read that i should save to a memory card rather than save states. is there a way to make a memory card within dolphin [without hopefully a real card]?
sorry for another question, but someone suggested that saving ingame, which i assume would be to run the game on lle, go to a savepoint, disable lle and enable hle, then save and revert to lle. when i open the game it will be on hle, which i can switch to lle. would this be easier than making memory card or would i need a memory card for this too?

In User/GC.

Same thing as above.

Dolphin should already have created one for you (in User/GC again). Just make your saves.

Your save points
ARE your Memory Card
