It will work, yes, but you will have to buy the mounting kit for socket 775. Both the TRUE 120 and H50 come with it standard however.
That is true, all of it (nice find on the 4850)

+ 4850 Memory is 256 Bits(with gddr 3) and 4770 is 128bits (but has ddr5) ^^

As far as i know there is no performence difference between gddr 3 and 5. Infact all current nvidia cards use gddr3 so the 256 bits are what matters.
Hmm... It's sad to hear this now, after I bought my Phenom II 940. Is all hope lost? Will I ever get full speeds?
When I tried overclocking, it didn't seem to be noticeably different. I overclocked all the way up to 3.6GHz and I assume that heat was making it sluggish. I changed it back.
It really dissapointing. Madworld's cut scenes audio are quicker than the video, Super Mario Galaxy is slow (and slower with the Wiimote on), Wind Waker slows when it looks out at the ocean. Is this a matter of my poor CPU choice or a matter that will be resolved in later revisions as they become more efficient? Also, off the Dolphin matter, Resident Evil 5's variable benchmark test dips from high 40's to 60.
I'm really tempted to swap out my Phenom II 940, Motherboard and RAM for an i7 920, intel motherboard and DDR3 ram, but it's definately out of my price range for a while. Where would I sell my old parts off to? I live in New Zealand... Perhaps online?
But would this be such a good idea? Should I wait for a price drop (when would that be expected?) or do I wait for something to outperform the i7? I don't want to make another rushed, idiotic mistake again.
Cheers!

Stick to your phenom! I use this cpu since january and i'm very happy with it. Storys about phenoms beeing slow in dolphin are nonsense. Every game that is playable with fullspeed in dolphin runs great on my rig. Hell i get even 16 fps in hyrule field. I don't think there is a faster intel cpu beside i7 but it is also much more expensive.
changing 3,6ghz phenom to i7 920 is a bad idea.
even if you get it up to 4ghz, which is not easy, it will not be that much faster.
in terms of playability : i doubt there is a game that would be playable that you cant play at the moment.

i doubt we see much more efficient recompiler code.
maybe some speed hacks, but the ppc->x86 code is allready quiet good. dont exspect more then a few % from that in future.
wii power pc runs with more then 700mhz and you get a ~3-5 times blowup on average from ppc to x86. (1 instruction on wii needs 4-6 instruction on your cpu)
+ the amount of computing that is needed to convert the ppc instructions to x86 instructions in the first place.
so that means : if a game is really using the full power of the wii, it is impossible to emulate it on todays x86 hardware with proper speed.
im quiet impressed of the dolphin speed we achieve today if you compare for example with psxe2 which only emulates a 300mhz cpu.
so emulating wii may need more then double computing power then emulating ps2 !
with that in mind and speed of psxe2, you must say that dolphins recompiler is allready great.
The 'facts' about a Phenom II being 'just as good' as an i7 for Dolphin purposes could only come from people who either have had a Phenom II ONLY or own neither. Again, I direct and invite anyone to see the comedy that is my signature.
An E8400 is a fair bit faster than a similarly clocked Phenom II. Given that damn near all E8400s can hit 4GHz and Phenom IIs struggle to get that high under water, lets just say for the sake of argument that they are both operating at that speed. An E8400 is still going to play Dolphin noticeably faster due to it just being naturally faster on a clock by clock basis. An i7 in turn will be even faster since it is, on average, about ~%15 faster than its socket 775 brethren on a clock by clock comparison.

Oh? You mean like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yiMZrAaWOw (Made on a Phenom II @ 4GHz)
Now check this out:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ojrq5DgEZuQ (both used the same Dolphin build)
To say an i7 is 'just as good' as a Phenom II with current Dolphin builds is pretty damn ignorant seeing as how it is not even as good as a Wolfdale, much less a Yorkfield.

Good explanation... I would trade my current CPU for any of the ones u just listed ^^
