That's what I'm hoping. I just have to figure out how to do this. I'm still searching for a step by step guide. I'm pretty lucky because most discussions are based on the i7 920 which is what I have, but I have yet to find a step by step guide (I prefer these for processes I've never done before).

I'm thinking of ordering this cooler, what do you all think?

Also, I was wondering if anyone on here could.. "mentor" me on this? From reading some of the guides it seems that this is a process that takes time and lots of testing to make sure the pc stays cool. Some people have overclocked it at 4.0 !! but I'm thinking of going with a safer 3.6 ghz. I'm going to read up on this, but will post videos of how well it emulates if all goes well. Hmm I wonder if a computer shop would do this for me? to avoid the hassle? I'm just worried they wouldn't be as careful as I would be and might rush through it.

A newbie question: Does anyone know if there are know settings that work to overclock cpus? I mean, if I search hard enough will I be able to find the settings someone used on their computer so I can just use them on mine? Or is this literraly something you tweak a little here.. see what happens. I better read up on this some more.

You just have to tweak everything little by little

I just read somewhere that HP does not let you overclock your pc, is this true? D=

but i did find this http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/254065-29-e9180t-overclocking#bas

where the suggest using the FSB to overclock in windows, can instead through bios. Does anyone know what this means?

Tom's is a relatively useless site. Overclocking in windows is for final tweaking/suicide runs, which you do not want. Bios is the thing where you press f5 and get the blue menu. Btw, hp doesn't let you overclock.
when bios doesn't allow OC, its ok to do it in windows.

but you should prefer bios if it available.

@ James333 :

didn't know that... is there no way to import stuff into your country ?
HP's bios is really useless, i'm struggling with it at the moment because i wanted to underclock my processor.

Goodluck with that. I couldn't even overclock using software and can't find a case where someone found a way around it. Do you think anyone has designed software or a program that can get around this bios lock?

I read somewhere that a long time ago they had a "backdoor" for hp computer, it was a password that only hp technicians knew. They would use this for repairs and that kind of stuff. They must have a way for their technicians to access the bios for fixing computers... wonder how they do that.. hmm.
I would have had a 3.6 or 4 ghz cpu! ARgh! *throws tantrum on bed like that kid*
