I've been looking at going AMD recently because the phenom 2's are really good value for money, esp the tri-cores with unlocking potential. Any idea how they perform in Dolphin?
The Asus G51VX is around $1k new, just upgrade the processor to a T9800 and you'll be set to go with dolphin.
Thx for Double POst ^^ + Are you suggesting the guy should buy a brand new laptop and change directly the processor on It ? lol ^^
Apologies for double post.....didn't realize it would offend you to have to read two posts in a row from the same person.
Yeah why not? A new T9800 is $300 and you could probably get $100 for the one that's already in there 2ndhand. That's $1300 for a t9800 laptop with a gtx260 and 4gb ram. Still a bargain hey.
It is fine , Im used to get offended by assholes in here !(jk of course ^^)
And yes your Idea is very interesting for someone who knows at least a little about hardware !
To Julius : You are correct Macbook Pro are great (refurbished ones are like 1200 for a c2Duo2.5Ghz + Ion Graphic cards)
and for someone who gives a sh*t about support.
very useful to have a laptop that you can throw in the bin, because of maybe some minor problem as the support wont help you anymore.
dont even think about that. there is a reason why for example Dell lets you pay enormous amounts of money for extended support : cause it will be needed and it does cost much.
you cannot repair a laptop like you would repair a desktop... just change some parts and all is fine.
instead you often have to change the whole mainboard and thats costs more then the book is worth in many cases.
Well it's just a thought. The problem is laptops pre-fitted with t9800s cost a lot more out of the gate because they tend to use all premium components.
Yep, on some other laptop forums I went to, they recomened me either the Asus G51 or G71. I think I'll be going with the G51...
The problem is which model to get. They're way more expensive here in Canada, so I can either get the X1A and hope I can overclock it to 2.5GHz like some people are able to, or give it more money and get the X2A, with 2.8GHz stock, and overclock it to > 3.0GHz
But tht thing supports quad cores, so I don't think using the T9800 would be too big a deal. But hey, what do I know

Would a computer with AMD Phenom II X4 810 with 2.6Ghz core + 6Gb Ram + ATI Radeon 4650 1Gb be good for playing games?
Its kind of cheap for those specs, soo..
And its got quad, now, i know you only can use 2 cores.
But it wont slow down the system.
But i will surely use the HDD i have now, and have another HDD inside with Vista. (Vista Home Premium 64-bit on it)
(I know, i dont like too big changes, but as long i got good ol' XP im okay

)
Not just games, that's good for overall use.
