I've tried various internal resolution and anisotropic settings, but the only way to play a game like wind waker is with 1x native and a anisotropic setting of 2x. Is there a way I can play with 2x native and hopefully 16x anisotropic?

Dolphin 3.5.367
13'' macbook pro, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
The Intel HD 3000 GPU isn't going to allow you to raise the internal resolution very high without losing speed. There really isn't anything you can do about it other than getting better hardware. Intel Graphics aren't made for gaming.

Also, you're using an old Dolphin build, use the download button at the top of the forum to download the latest development version from the official site.
Fwiw, even on the Intel HD 3000, you should be able to set AF to 16x. You can set it to 16x on much weaker GPUs. The internal resolution and anti-aliasing, oth, are a different story as Starscream explained.
thanks for the quick advice. I've tried the latest version but it keeps crashing. should i try 3.5?

just for the sake of it let me ask, is the frame rate on WW supposed to go between 13 and 28 fps, even during game play?
You can try 3.5, although your GPU will still bottleneck your system. 3.5 may or may not help with that performance, but you'll only know if you try it for yourself.

WW should run 30 FPS most of the time (for NTSC and PAL versions) though it will run 60 FPS or 50 FPS (NTSC and PAL respectively) at some points, but not during actual gameplay. I think it chiefly occurs when the "Nintendo" logo appears.
The frame rate should be at a solid 30 if you're running the game at full speed. If not, the whole game should look like it's running in slow-motion (though certain settings can make it just skip frames instead).

Current builds crash for you on 10.7.5 because the whole OpenGL backend's been rewritten and it now uses a certain feature or two that OS X's Intel HD 3000 drivers doesn't fully support yet. By 10.8.3 they had the sense to make it avoid the crash and fall back to software rendering instead, and in 10.8.4 betas Dolphin *almost* works – now they just need to fix the graphical issues.

Anyway, 3.5-663's the build right before we merged in that rewrite, so it's the latest you can currently use. (Stable 3.5 might be slightly faster, though.) http://dolphin-emu.org/download/dev/8767b30f75db5732023d9ebf9d93573f3b839e50/
the 3.5.663 went to a black screen after trying to load a game from the start menu. I tried the audio and auto frame rates, but they really affected the frame rates. the 3.5 was a kind of the same, even at 1x native and 1x. I'll have to play the game at the default, but at least i get to play it.

Thanks again for the assistance
Try the pre-configured Dolphin version

EFB2Ram -> EFB2texture via ini file
thanks. the 3.0 is slightly better, the fps doesn't drop down to 13-14. is it safe to check the 'lock threads to core'?
