There is this kid at school who thinks that Chrome is better than Firefox. He gets better grades than me and uses that to say that I have no right to talk when I say Firefox is better. We get into these arguments almost every day.

It's not just him. I don't know one person who likes Firefox more than Chrome. Everyone uses Chrome or Internet Explorer. My parents and siblings even use Chrome.

Anyway he usually gets someone else to back him up most of the time. Or he says something completely off like, "Chrome has more add-ons." He can never even come up with a good reason. Everyone says Chrome looks better - I disagree strongly. Everyone says Chrome is less buggy - I disagree strongly. Everyone says Chrome is faster - I don't see a huge difference.

I show kids the large amount of features Firefox has under options, and they say Chrome has all of that too. But it doesn't. I've used Chrome on my mom's laptop before I got mine, and it had a small web page of settings that were as basic as you could get. Anytime I say it can do something he and everyone else says so can Chrome.

And just the little things, like how the tabs on Firefox are actually adequately sized, meaning YOU CAN READ THE TITLE OF A PAGE vs Chromes super small tabs that suck . On Firefox's bookmark toolbar you can put separators in between sites. Downloads are in a small panel you can choose to open, and if you don't it takes up no space but still shows the ETA vs Chromes super ugly download bar. Firefox has a great PDF viewer vs Chromes minimalist one.

Not to even mention Firefox's amazing web developer tools, with or without Firebug.

Chrome is basically a slimmed down browser for people who want lord knows what so Google gave Chrome no features. I guess it was for speed and a minimalist look, but Firefox has all of that BUT it has a lot of features.

My question is, why do most people use Chrome? And also if you use Firefox what are some reasons that make it better that I could use to end the argument? I know NV uses Firefox. Perhaps you could help.

Latest IE(Wins 8) is faster than latest chrome -> IE for main usage and chrome for nico nico douga only

Both Firefox and chrome are generally considered more secure than IE or Safari. For a smart user however it doesn't matter too much and which is better is purely subjective. Some users may not wont or need a lot of features. If one wants the fastest browser they will likely have to switch quite often as the major players are constantly trying to one up the others.

For me chrome is the best. And I'm not wrong. For you Firefox is the best and you are also not wrong.

Edit: also stop arguing with this guy about it. It is a complete waist of time. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Hmmm. I see a potential solution to your problem OP.

Ask him to state his objective and subjective reasons for preferring chrome and back them up with evidence. He of course won't because he's probably your average 14 year old (no offense) and is therefore incapable of any kind of properly structured argument/debate. After that you can safely ignore him while having come to the realization that you are an inherently superior human being that shouldn't give two shits about what this moron thinks. Seriously, why do you care?

I prefer firefox because:
1. You mentioned the issue with tab size. This can be fixed by altering settings but I would really prefer to have a browser that is properly configured out of the box, which FF is.
2. The speed difference is neglible between them. Some stuff runs faster on chrome some stuff runs faster on FF. Search around the web and you'll find plenty of benchmarks to back this up. One thing I have noticed is that FF does a much better job of maintaining its performance when opening more tabs. Chrome is noticeably slower for me with several dozen tabs open than FF.
3. When restoring a session chrome reloads every single god damn tab. With my slow internet connection this basically freezes my connection for a long time every time I open the browser if I had a lot of tabs open. Which really pisses me off.
4. There are some really nice plugins I have for FF for which I cannot find an equally good chrome extension.
5. While this very rarely happens sometimes chrome has issues rendering certain web pages that FF doesn't.
6. Memory use. Open lots of tabs on both and you'll see FF use less memory since it seems to do a better job of caching tabs that haven't been recently opened to the HDD.
7. FF seems to timeout and deactivate plugins faster when something is unresponsive. Chrome often freezes and becomes unresponsive for a long time when a plugin crashes.
8. I've been using it longer and really don't want to transfer over all of my bookmarks and other stuff.

This won't however "end the argument". Just because there are some things I prefer about firefox doesn't make it automatically superior and the only browser that should exist.

I like and use both browsers and I think the differences between them are overall pretty small. They are of course grossly exaggerated by people on the internet that somehow feel like their choice of web browser defines who they are. Also with both browsers if there is something your don't like you can probably fix it via a plugin or by changing some settings since they are both highly customizable.

Chrome. It starts up in roughly half the time Firefox does for me. I used to use Firefox and actually still do at times, but the majority of the time when I need a browser, it's usually Chrome that gets the call.

I switched to Chrome when I got a really weak laptop, because it would take ages for Firefox to start, while Chrome was available almost immediately and I also liked the design better. Nowadays I'm thinking of switching back to Firefox since on my new laptop there isn't a noticeable speed difference and Firefox has some amazing add-ons. Right now I'm using both browsers at the same time, though I'm still mainly surfing with Chrome since it has all my settings and bookmarks synched and it would take some time and work to set up my firefox accordingly (and I hate work)

Firefox doesn't sandbox which puts it at the bottom of my list.
