Never mind , i thought it would be Metroid Prime GC version since you said Metroid Prime 1. Metroid Prime Trilogy is Metroid Prime 2 and i don't have that game
I bet that game is GPU & CPU intensive . So it does make sense now

I'm running the trilogy (wii), don't own the GC version.

I've tried using all the backends, it makes no difference for me.

SMG is running better when using vbeam but it's not 100% at least not for me. FPS goes from 60 down to 50, and some scenes the game is lagging very noticeable, audio, stuttering etc. Maybe i'm expecting too much from from SMG to run perfect.

Looking at "old" youtube videos of all 3 games, they do seem to run very good. The problem I have with the stuttering and audio issus is up on dolphin wiki, so at least i'm not alone Sleepy

Gonna spend a few more hours this weekend trying to get metroid playable.

Thanks for your help!

Yeah well, MP1 for GC runs 30-40% faster and has no slowdowns therefore. But I like the trilogy more and especially the Wiimote control.

But still it's unclear why the hell my framerate gains 10-15% just by opening and closing the graphics settings?

And also why do I lose 5 fps with every IR-step even if my GPU is capable of doing IR 4x?

Questions, questions everywhere Dodgy

Nope , your GPU is capable of doing 3xIR and nothing more , 4xIR is doable on some light-weight games only
http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-minimum-specs-video-card
Your GPU only have 64GB/sec memory bandwidth while the requirement for 4xIR is 70GB/sec and higher
The desktop GTX 650 has 80GB/sec memory bandwidth but it's only capable of doing 3xIR on demanding games such as Mario Galaxy...

I don't know . Normally , you should not lose that much FPS unless you used 3xIR on GPU intensive games or 4xIR on most games
I heard Metriod Prime Trilogy is the most demanding game of Metriod Prime series

I know many users have the same hardware as yours , SMG run perfectly on their system even at 4xIR (no slowndown whatsoever) .
You're underestimate i5 3570k @ 4.5GHz . I don't know why SMG run so poor on your PC though
Edit : Make sure there is no program/software (on background) that interfere your performance

The information on the techpowerup-site is not quite correct, the real Mac Edition 650M doesn't have 735/1000 MHz clocks but 900/1254, the bandwidth is therefore 80GB/sec (as seen on my screenshots and on the comparison of nvidia gpu's wikipedia-page).
And yes, MPT is very demanding and cannot be compared to the GC version in respect of speed :/

It's correct . 735/1000 MHz is default clock speed of that chip
GT 650M has GPU boost feature which will boost GPU clock speed up if your GPU still run cool
However I doubted that since a multi-media notebook like MacBook run quite hot . I thought GPU Boost would be disabled automatically...

I've never experienced this. My laptop runs in every game at constant 900/1254 MHz when I activate performance mode. Adaptive mode (135/419 MHz with a boost if required) is more silent, but it takes a few seconds for the GPU to realize a higher load to boost the clocks. This is noticeable in a slowdown in demanding scenes lasting a few seconds before the GPU increases the clocks.

The fans always try to hold 79°C and in most games this is done with a fan speed of around 3-4k rpm (6k is max), which is not that loud for such a thin laptop.

Best joke eva, here's a free off-topic warning for you.

Every game has a .ini config file of per-game settings that Dolphin will automatically load and use on boot. It overrides your default settings. Opening and closing your Graphics settings restores your default settings (at least the ones that can be changed while a game is running). What's likely happening is that the .ini file is using a demanding setting (e.g. EFB -> RAM) but your default settings use something less demanding (e.g. EFB -> Texture).
