Why are the admins deleting all the threads about dumping the Wii Network keys? Is there any reason not to help people take software from their own Wiis and use it in the emulator?
It's not that you don't want us to dump stuff - the forums provide info on how to dump the DSP roms. So why not the network stuff? Nintendo owns the random numbers?

(Why do I have a feeling this thread will be deleted or closed within seconds of posting? If that happens, I win.)
I dunno where the rumor about censorship came from. AFAIK, we rarely delete threads unless they're grossly inappropriate or the ones made by spambots. IIRC, the process of getting the certificates is complicated, and rather than having the forum flooded with questions about how it's done, or why it isn't working, the devs want to wait until the process is a lot simpler before telling everyone how to do it. A lot of new users couldn't even dump their own DSP files, despite the comprehensive FAQ available; getting the certs as-is would be a nightmare in the Support forum. For what it's worth, all people really have to do is ask someone (nicely) on the IRC channel and have a lot of patience.
Wii-Network builds are not ready to be used for online purposes at the moment, that's as detailed as I'm going to get right now. That is why no one is providing any support for this. If the builds aren't ready and the developers prefer that people wait until these builds are officially supported, it makes sense that no one will offer you any help until the time is right.
Simple reason: at the moment everyone using these builds is playing using the friend code of one of the developers. That's not very nice.

Yes people, usually when we tell you to not use a build there is some reason behind it. Thank you very much for not listening to us, that will surely encourage people to release this kind of work in progress publicly in the future... NOT.

Apparently this branch devs were right to develop this in private at first and they should have kept it private for longer.
Afaik the branch can create friend codes now.
No.

That is OK. I will continue to try to get it to work so I can bomb Mario Kart Wii online matches with crippling desync and permaban the owner of the friend code from as many games as possible. </sarcasm>
Just curious. If you had your own nand dump would it not use the friend code found in it? For instance if I load the system menu and then go check my friend code on dolphin it is the same code my actual wii has. To clarify this is on master branch.

Yes, the friend code information is bundled with saves, so if you dump your NAND and extract it into Dolphin your saves will keep their respective friend codes.

Nobody is "using the developer's friend code", friend codes are uniquely generated every time they're requested, even if the wii ID has already been used (multiple licenses in mk wii, creating a new save in ac wii). What they may be using is the developer's console ID(s), if anything. If something like that were committed, that's pretty much just asking to be banned from WFC.

If you didn't want people to use and experiment with the Wii Network code, why commit it? Isn't that the whole point of open source?
They commit it so that others can help them get it into a state where it can be used by the average user. They don't want people who are going to make it harder to do in the future meddling, though, much in the same way as they don't want anyone pushing anything which breaks stuff to master.
